Below is provenance from our source:

This letter was sent to my Grandfather in reply to a letter he sent to Mr. Hitchcock and was an invitation to meet the filmmaker on the set of the film. Here is actual text of the letter:

January 14th, 1957

My dear Mr. Gerig:

When you arrive in San Francisco around March 12th, I expect to be there shooting a picture with James Stewart. A telephone call to the Paramount Studios in Hollywood (Hollywood 9-2411, Extension 463) will give you our whereabouts in the city.
I will look forward to seeing you.
With kindest regards,

Sincerely yours,
Alfred Hitchcock

Mr. Warren C. Gerig
Anand Bhawan
54 Warden Road
Bombay 26, India

ADDITIONAL INFO ON LETTER ORIGINS:

I have left the provenance in original format below:

"After getting a few questions regarding the origins of this letter we asked my mother in law (Mr. Gerig's daughter) and we found out some more information. Evidently, my wife's grandparents were neighbors of the Indian actress Suraiya (who recently passed away in January 2004) while they lived in India (apparently in adjacent buildings). Alfred Hitchcock came to India to meet with her, and she invited Mr. and Mrs. Gerig to tea with Mr Hitchcock while he was there. Some time a few months later, Mr. Gerig sent a letter to Mr. Hitchcock asking for a tour of Paramount Studios and received this invitation to meet him on the movie set while he was visiting San Francisco. The Gerig's did end up meeting him in San Francisco in March 1958, but we have no other details of the meeting."

An Absolutely Extraordinary item! Written while filming "Vertigo" as he mentions the movie indirectly "making a movie with James Stewart...".  The only movie Hitch and James Stewart were making during 1957 was "Vertigo".

Guaranteed Authentic for Life

Conway's stamp is NOT on the original letter.
