This auction is for a beautiful, tough, historic and desirable
ORIGINAL BOXING PROGRAM HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JOE LOUIS vs. CHALLENGER LOU NOVA....September 29, 1941 at the POLO GROUNDS, New York. A terrific, huge oversized 9 x 12 in. program, 18 pages plus covers filled with pictures and articles. Beautiful Lon Keller cover illustration. Clean and unscored.
Nova, a.k.a. “the Cosmic Puncher” came into this fight with only one loss. He had impressive wins over top fighters such as Tommy Farr, Max Baer and Bob Pastor.
Nova was knocked down once in the 6th round. Lou made a poor showing. According to Nat Fleischer (The Ring, December 1941, page 4) Nova didn't win a round and took a terrible beating in the sixth round. The end was somewhat controversial because the fight was stopped with just one second left in the round when Nova arose unsteadily from the knockdown. He became an actor after his boxing days ended, appearing on over 20 movies.

A very tough item due to the upcoming War, most vanished in paper drives to support the war effort.. This is a great piece of rare historic sports memorabilia

Condition: VG-EX , complete, flat, tight spine, clean, vibrant colors and artwork. Clean and glossy white inside. Corner bends.
