One professionally made repair. Craquelures due to age. No missing paint, holes or tears. Please see the photos. The frame is in a good condition. Ready to hang. Superb Danish Second Empire Frame, ca. 1850. A compound profile frame with an integral flat and hollow sight edge liner, an acanthus leaf anthemion ogee panel, lotus leaf répassé and a high reeded oak leaf and berry top edge. Beautiful mellow original gilding is a combination of mat oil gilding and burnished silver gilding, as typical of the period. This type of European Biedermeier frame, very common to maritime works, inspired the frame choice and design of the American painters of the Hudson River School . An excellent and contemporary complement to this work.
