Bio:
Charles Lapicque was born on October 6, 1898 in Theizé (Rhône). After the end of World War I, Lapicque finished his training as an engineer. As he felt far more attracted to art than to technology, he studied painting, printing techniques and sculpture auto-didactically from 1928. In 1943 he quit his engineering job for good and became a freelance artist. His paintings and prints excel through their dynamic composition and bright colors. Charles Lapicque formulated the theory behind his work in his treatise 'Essai sur l'espace, l'art et la destinée', which was published in 1958. Charles Lapicque died on July 15, 1988 in Orsay (Essone).
