The Quiet Man (Republic, 1952). One Sheet (27" X 41").
John Ford's pet project finally came to the screen in 1952 and became an instant classic. Besides the fact that it featured "The Ford Players" (John Wayne, Victor McLaglen, Ward Bond and Barry Fitzgerald among others), it cast the beautiful Maureen O'Hara and set the story in the quaint villages of Ford's beloved Ireland.
A risky departure from the always-profitable Westerns he had been making for Republic Studios, this charming tale set in Ireland is one of the highpoints in the career of director John Ford. It tells the story of an Irish-American boxer (John Wayne) who returns to the land of his birth after accidentally killing a man in the ring. Anxious to just settle down to a quiet life, Wayne finds the peace he craves to be elusive, even after marrying the beautiful Maureen O'Hara. Although Republic was convinced that the film would be a failure, it went on to gross more than $4 million, a considerable sum for the studio at the time. Offered here is a wonderful original release one sheet for this popular film. Only some fold wear.

Of all of the films that John Ford directed, his personal favorite was "The Quiet Man." Ford had to wait a number of years before he could make the picture on location in his native Ireland. It starred a virtual who's who of Ford players, including John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Victor McLaglen, and Ward Bond, and remains one of the director's masterpieces. Written by Frank Nugent and beautifully scored by Victor Young, the film won Oscars for Archie Stout's Technicolor photography, and for Ford's direction.
