Sports History!

Ultra RARE 1916 Red Sox vs Brooklyn Dodgers World Series Program
Featuring New Red Sox Star Pitcher - BABE RUTH

100 Years Ago, Babe Ruth threw out his first pitch in a World Series for the Boston Red Sox!  And his 2nd appearance in game 2 vs the Dodgers is considered the greatest World Series game ever pitched

Long before the "Babe Ruth curse" would cast its cruel spell upon Boston Red Sox fans for 86 years, the most recognized name in sports history would bring the Red Sox two more World Series Championships before the unthinkable "trade" to the New York Yankees in the final days of 1919.    And I would personally watch my great-grandfather, grandfather and father suffer the annual torment for the better part of a century.

Here is one of the most important pieces of sports history we have acquired in our 35 years collecting vintage sports memorabilia.   An Original Vintage 1916 World Series program for game 4 between the Boston Red Sox and Brooklyn Dodgers.   With the Red Sox new rookie pitcher a guy by the name of Babe Ruth..(pictured and featured in the Red Sox team photo lineup)..   With Wilbert Robinson, HOF Dodgers Manager on the cover..  Not only significant for obvious reasons, but beyond rare!  Although a few 1916 Red Sox Scorecards have sold in the past at auction for up to $5000, we can not find ONE instance of this Program ever being sold.    Own it before Cooperstown's or one of the other baseball museums grabs it!

* See enlargeable images above and below.     We wil be posting better images by next week.

Condition:
VGEX in my view, amazing for a 100 year-old program. Complete, all pages present, flat, vibrant colors and artwork. Clean and glossy white inside, mild lower inside corner stain. Some edge and surface cover wear (common for these oversize 9 x 11 programs). Minor top cover corner professional repair, very light center bend, and lower corner flattened bend.

RARE VINTAGE ORIGINAL! OFFICIAL 1916 WORLD SERIES PROGRAM BOSTON RED SOX at BROOKLYN DODGERS – RED SOX DYNASTY WINS IN 5 – BABE RUTH, NEW PITCHING STAR IS PICTURED - SCORED FOR GAME 4 – DODGERS 1st WORLD SERIES – ONLY 2 GAMES PLAYED AT EBBETS!!

DESCRIPTION:

Here’s the chance of a lifetime to own a vintage, nice, super rare, most desirable, and real Official 1916 WORLD SERIES PROGRAM BOSTON RED SOX at BROOKLYN DODGERS. This program is an ancient (100 years old!) and remarkable survivor of a Series marking the first-ever DODGERS WORLD SERIES. Terrific historical piece and great investment! Series was even more remarkable owing to the historical circumstances pitting the two opponents. The Dodgers would not win a World Series intil 1955 while the Red Sox were a dynasty, having taken the 1903, 1912, and 1915 Series titles and boasted a new star lefthander named BABE RUTH (pictured). The Dodgers had a young outfielder named CASEY STENGEL (pictured). Pencil scored for Game, Wednesday, October 11, 1916 at EBBETS FIELD, Dutch Leonard over future HOFer Rube Marquard, 6-2, before tiny crowd of 21,662. Game highlight was a three run inside-the-park HR in the second inning by Sox’ 3B Larry Gardner. Sox’ Leonard pitched a five hit complete game, after surrendering two runs in the first inning.

Due to small capacity, only two games played at Ebbets makes this extra tough to find (only 42,00 total attended there). The remaining 3 games were played at much larger, new BRAVES FIELD (where 126,000 total attended).
Program, published by Harry M. Stevens, is 16 pages long, oversized 9 x 11 in....
This is a great piece of rare historic sports memorabilia and well worth bidding on. Loaded with pictures, profiles, and statistics of players on the team.
