Intent on capitalizing on the King Kong craze, producers Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack delivered a special effects bonanza in their follow-up film, Mighty Joe Young. Robert Armstrong once again plays savvy showbiz impresario Max O'Hara, who travels to Africa to find authentic decorations for his latest nightclub venture. What he finds is sweet natured Joe, a ten-foot ape owned by a lovely piano playing Terry Moore. O'Hara brings them both back to the States, where the duo shines onstage. That is, until Joe begins to resent being caged after the nightly shows and takes his fury out on a band of drunks who decide to tease him. Brimming with Joe's rage in fiery hues, this gorgeous vintage half sheet hints at the fantastic work of original stop-motion animator Willis O'Brian and his young assistant, Ray Harryhausen.
