ORIGINAL 1852 PATENT MODEL OF A CLOTH FELTING MACHINE WITH PATENT OFFICE TAG

Here is an exceptionally rare and wonderful, original 1852 United States Patent Office Model of an improved Factory Machine for felting fabrics. This fascinating Wood, Brass and Iron American Patent Model measures approx. 8" tall, 16" long and 5" wide. It is an exact representation in miniature, of an improved design for a Machine that would felt the surface of a wool fabric and was it patented in 1852.
Offered here is the original Patent Model of this elaborate factory machine for felting fabric that would have been used in a Textile Mill. The majority of the Patent Model is made of wood and the gears and shafts are made of brass and iron. There is a "table", on which the fabric would pass to be worked by panels of wood creating a knap to the textile i.e.: felt.
The hand made Model of an Improved Machine for Felting Fabric which is offered here was actually the original Patent Model - submitted to the US Patent Office by the inventor Joseph Weight of Lawrence, Massachusetts - a major Textile Mill Town in the years before the Civil War. It came to us with the original Patent Office Tag. The invention was issued Patent Number 8,636 on January 6th, 1852. This wonderful, model of an Improved Cloth Felting Machine was submitted to the U. S. Patent Office as part of the Patent Application Process.
This very rare and wonderful, Patent Model is in very good condition but is lacking parts. When one compares the Model to the original Patent Drawings one can see that there are a number of gears and a drive shaft that is missing along with at least 2 other rollers for handling the large rolls of fabric / cloth. All of the parts that are present are well preserved with no damage or repairs of any kind except for some surface oxidation to some of the iron parts.
We have not cleaned up the Model and offer it "as found" thus leaving any alteration of the surface or adjustments to the winning bidder. As mentioned above, the Model retains the original Patent Office Tag and we will also include a modern copy of the original patent papers downloaded from the U.S. Patent Office records!!
This wonderful, 1852 Patent Model is 100% guaranteed to be the original Model that was submitted to the United States Patent Office as part of the Patent Application process. Included with the Model are the original Patent Office Tag as well as a modern copy of the Patent Documents as filed with the U.S. Patent Office.
