Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus - 1944
Terrific vintage Barnum and Bailey poster for 1944 Hartford, CT show. Great artwork and graphics!
Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus (5-6 July, 1944). Circus Poster (21" X 28"). Circus.
Great mid 1940s Ringling poster with the artist, Bill Bailey, signed in the plate. There is a 7" X 21" play date snipe attached to the bottom. An un-restored poster with good color and an overall very presentable appearance.
*Note: This exact poster was used by Time Magazine for their recent Special Edition "Disasters That Shook the World". You can see it in the chapter about the Hartford Fire of 1944, with credit to "Conway's Vintage Treasures".
* On July 6, 1944, the Barbour St. show grounds in Hartford, Connecticut, was the scene of the tragic Great Hartford Circus Fire. 135 people lost their lives when the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus tent caught fire. It would be more than 30 years before Ringling Bros. would return to Hartford, but never to the Barbour St. show grounds.
