To some people music is the cure for all stresses, while for others it’s the sound of the ocean or the wind racing across a landscape. And then to many, it’s all the emotion that went into creating a stirring work of art. We don’t pretend to be art experts; we are certainly not the stereotypical stuffy fine art connoisseur. You know them at the art gallery exhibits or museum curators who strain so hard trying to impress with gratuitous language. Maybe you've encountered their pretentious persona often stereotypical of the fine art socials.

No, we’re just collectors of primitive fine art, primarily from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. There is just something alluring, even fascinating about a work of art that has far outlived it’s master and will continue on long after we’re all gone. For the collector of vintage, it’s the historic look and feel, a moment in time captured on canvas. When I look at my Battle Ship scene from 1894, I wonder what it was like to be onboard loading up another canon ball. Or, the baby in the 18th century painting on ivory. What did he grow up to be and how long did he live. I guess that’s what art does to us who can appreciate fine worksof art, it makes us dream. We all have our own personal story. And, it belongs to no one else but us.

* A Note of Caution! Be vigilant when acquiring presidential autographs. Because they are so highly sought after by collectors, some unscrupulous individuals are desperate enough to produce and sell autograph forgeries. One strategy to avoid being scammed by forgers is to invest in official documents and stay away from “clipped signatures” on pieces of blank paper. . For example, a Presidential Appointment signed by Abraham Lincoln is highly unlikely to be forged. In 25 years of collecting, I have never seen a forged Presidential Appointment or Land Grant. There are secretarial signatures. Andrew Jackson for example often had a secretary sign his documents but they are obvious to spot and not the work of a deceptive forger. John Kennedy had a secretary or autopen machine sign the MAJORITY of his letters after 1954, but again easy to spot by the experienced collector or dealer.
