Here is a great vintage Fight Pictures poster for their 1971 "Fight of the Century", the unforgettable first clash between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.  Amazing graphis of both fighters.  Size is 27x41". Excellent condition with original folds as all original vintage posters were folded by the studios and shipped to theatres.  This was used to promote the Live telecast of this fight.

This is a very rare style of this poster. Apparently not many of this style were made.  All of these I have ever seen are the white with red lettering version. This is the first time I have seen or had this yellow background version. Event the 11x17" reproductions of these are all the standard red on white.  I am updating this information in the web site.

One of the nicest Jimmie Foxx autographs you will ever see! This is a signed, in black fountain pen, autographed page of Jimmie Foxx and many others! This page contains autographs of his team-mates! To include: Lee Rogers, Wes Ferrell, Johnny Welch, Dusty Cooke, and many others to include Ostermmueller, etc. I can't read the other last names! This item is absolutely mint and would grade very high! Guaranteed to pass PSA/DNA or any other test you want to conduct on it! It is a signed album page from an autograph book! James Emory Foxx ( 1907 - 1967) was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball who was one of the greatest right-handed power hitters to ever play the sport. Foxx was the second major league player to hit 500 career home runs, and at age 32 years, 11 months, and two days, is still the youngest ever to reach that mark. Foxx was one of the three or four most feared sluggers of his era. The great Yankee pitcher Lefty Gomez once said of him, "He has muscles in his hair." In 1937 Foxx hit a ball into the third deck of the left-field stands at Yankee Stadium in New York, a very rare feat because of the distance and the angle of the stands. Gomez was the pitcher who gave it up, and when asked how far it went, he said, "I don't know, but I do know it took somebody 45 minutes to go up there and get it back." He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951. At the end of his career, his 534 home runs placed him second only to Ruth on the all-time list, and first among right-handed hitters. He retained these positions until Willie Mays passed Foxx for 2nd place on the all-time HR list in 1966. In 1999, he ranked number 15 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players, and was a nominee for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. Although Foxx's name appears both as Jimmy Foxx and Jimmie Foxx in newspaper accounts, box scores, baseball cards, and other records, Foxx generally signed his name "Jimmie." Offered here is his signature, written in bold, blue ink, and affixed to a 3" by 5" index card. The back of the card is blank.

RARE Original Photo - The Final Game

An Outstanding ORIGINAL Wire Photo issued by Acme Newspictures on September 30, 1934, the final game of the season and Babe Ruth's LAST game as a member of the New York Yankees

Ruth was honored at Griffith Stadium earlier that day with gifts he announced his retirement from baseball. He retired and was convinced to return to the game by Boston Braves owner Judge Fuchs later in December.

The Original Press Stamp, Date and Caption is on the reverse of this Vintage photo measuring 6" x 8". When Ruth decided to exit the game and leave the Yankees, it was ugly. Ruth with his diminishing skills was a fraction of the man he was in his prime. After years of lobbying for the managerial position with the Yankees and unsuccessfully getting through to the deaf ears of owner Jacob Ruppert, Ruth had enough.

This is an Outstanding photo of a dejected Ruth with his head down making his exit outside the ballpark. A kid is shown trying to chase down the Babe but Ruth (who usually accommodates everyone) was in a foul mood and had no time to pen the lad's baseball.

The cop shown is gesturing with his hands to the kid with a "not-today-son" motion. There is a man in the left foreground holding a long object wrapped up (possibly Ruth's final bat as a memento, but that is just an educated guest).

The caption folds out neatly from the bottom as seen in the second scan making this one ideal for framing with the story line showing. Simply a tremendous image !

Eagle Base Ball Club
Original Broadside, 1871

In 25 years of collecting, this may be the most significant piece of sports history we have ever seen or acquired.  This original broadside from 1871 is a historical relic from one of the first baseball teams ever assembled.   The broadside lithograph celebrates the 18^th Anniversary of the Eagle Base Ball Club. What makes this piece even more important is that the Eagle Baseball Club was one of the first New York baseball clubs. Below is a link to baseball history site and an excerpt.

1854: EAGLE CLUB OF NEW YORK
In their first year of existence the Eagle Club played only two matches and each time defeated the mighty Knickerbocker Club at Elysian Fields. The first victory came on November 10th by a score of 21-4, in which the match lasted five full innings. The second win for the Eagle Club came on
November 17th, also in five innings, 22-21. The Gotham Club of New York finished 1-1-1 and the Knickerbockers, who played the most matches of the three clubs, ended the season 1-3-1.

If you conduct your own research on the origins of baseball beginning in the mid 19th century you will find this ball club was a significant part of baseball history.

There is only one example of this broadside known to exist and it resides at the National Baseball Library. However, we have received estimates on what this would sell for at auction. 

The broadside was obtained from the family/descendants of Henry Bellows, the Treasurer of the Eagle Baseball Club (his name is on the broadside).  It is in remarkable condition for 140 years old. The artwork and printing is quite extraordinary and is an impressive “in person” experience that can’t be conveyed with an online image. It was one time folded but appears to have been rolled for the past several years.

Description:

The 1955 Stanley Cup Finals were held from April 3 to April 14, 1955 in a best-of-seven series between the Montreal Canadiens, appearing in their fifth straight Finals and the defending champion Detroit Red Wings. The Wings would win the series 4–3 to win their second consecutive Stanley Cup.

Prior to the playoffs, Montreal's Maurice Richard was suspended and would be missed by the Canadiens.

In game two, Ted Lindsay would score 4 goals to set a NHL record in the Finals. It was also the Wings' 15th consecutive win, another NHL record.

Gordie Howe set two NHL records, amassing 12 points, and he surpassed Toe Blake's point mark for the playoffs with 20 points in 11 games.

Program is in excellent condition.100% complete , flat and fully attached at the staples.Inside is clean and un-scored. Front cover exhibits right corner crease otherwise solid looking program.A terrific and difficult to find item. A nice find for any Hockey fanatic or sports enthusiast.

First Issue August 16, 1954

The very 1st issue of Sports Illustrated from August 16, 1954 with Eddie Matthew’s on the cover. Magazine is in mint condition. Vibrant color. Mag has the complete set of 1954 cards that are in mint condition and are listed in the Krause standard catalogue of baseball cards for $350 in near mint. Don’t know what they would be worth in mint condition but some graders will grade these.  An incredible find!!

RARE Large Size: 39.5x47"

This is an original fight poster to the fight dubbed "The Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) and George Foreman held in Zaire , Africa on October 30, 1974.  

What makes this particular fight poster so rare is this is the first time we have seen this large size of this poster. All we have seen in the past were the smaller 14x18” on heavy card stock. This vintage boxing treasure is a huge 39.5” x 47”.  Actually used to promote the telecast of fight in 1974.

This was the first heavyweight championship fight ever fought in Africa !! And, it is the most famous and most heavily depicted heavyweight fight in history pitting these two former Olympic Gold Medal winners, the much heavily favored Foreman against the underdog, Ali. Foreman was undefeated up until this time. The critics, the world believed Foreman was invincible. He made such quick work or Joe Frazier and Ken Norton that I remember the ring side announcers joking that "Forman must have left the car running". 

Ultimately it was a fight that proved Ali was "The Greatest," as he defeated Foreman in the 8th round. Ali allowed Foreman to punch himself out as Ali performed his famous "Rope-A-Dope," technique. As a result of this fight, Muhammad Ali was named Fighter of the Year by Ring magazine, and "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated! Ali also received the honor of being named Professional Athlete of the Year and received the 1974 Hickok Belt Award.

The significance of this RARE poster cannot be understated! Unlike the few others that have shown up with the fight date stamped over the original scheduled date which was September 24.  This poster has the original, untouched date on it. It is larger then most of the telecast posters which were only 14x18”. This is the FIRST "large size" of this poster we have ever seen. X-tremely rare! The poster offered here was actually made for the fight that took place and was actually used to promote it!!

Poster is in very good condition.  It was defiinitely  used in 1974 to promote the fight and has tape on the back to reinforce the folds. Could be removed by a professional linen backer. HOW incredible would this museum quality piece look linen backed? WOW!  The most desirable poster for this most significant fight that the boxing world have ever seen. (Other than Zaire site poster that sells for 10-15 thousand dollars)

Here is a rare movie poster for this historic fight. This is the first time we have seen this particular poster for this fight. Excellent condition

Frazier vs Ali Fight (Cinerama Releasing, 1971). Local Window Card (14" X 22"). Sports. On March 8, 1971 Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, two legends of boxing stepped into the ring at Madison Square Garden. Many boxing fans had their bets on who they thought world win, would it be Ali's speed and ability or Frazier's punching power. Woody Allen, Frank Sinatra, and the many fans watched the fight in anticipation to see who the victor would be. The fight lasting fifteen rounds went to the judges and the decision was unanimous, Frazier was the victor. This is the first movie release for Lyons Theatre, which was a little less than a month from the actual fight.  Very Fine+.

Mickey Mantle Signed Gallo poster

This is the famous Ray Gallo photo which Mantle liked so much he had a painting commissioned from the photo. This great piece is that painting lithograph of a young Mickey Mantle sitting in the dugout. 

Probably the greatest photo ever taken of Mantle was taken by Rhode Island photographer Ray Gallo of Mickey Mantle at Fenway Park during that Triple Crown Year of 1956. This photograph has been accepted by the Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown, from a selection of over 25 years. Mickey claimed this photo to be "the greatest photograph I've ever seen of myself." Gallo refers to this photo as "a contrast to the greatness and mightiest power of all baseball."

Mantle has signed in large bold blue marker. This wonderful piece comes with a copy of the ticket for the Mantle autograph signing in Worcester, MA in 1993 where he did the in-person signing. This particular item is in excellent condition and has been mounted on foam poster board (could be easily removed by a professional). You won't find a better one!! These are now selling for over $1500 online or over $3000 at collectible retail locations.   Great Poster Size!!

Vintage Signed Baseball Autograph

In 1966 Ted Williams attended the "Carlton Willey Day" in Bangor, Maine.  Being an avid fishermen, spending a lot of time in Maine, it was a convenient event for him.  It was on that day that the original recipient had Ted Williams sign on the “Sweet Spot” with a beautiful, crisp autograph in vintage ballpoint pen . Also attending the event was Bob Feller.  In addition to the ball are TWO ORIGINAL Vintage photos of Williams during the ceremony. Both are crisp 8x10" photos of a young Ted.

This Official Bob Feller Youth League Baseball has been signed also by HOF’er Bob Feller and Carlton Willey, along with Jimmy Piersall. 

Jim Piersall played for the Boston Red Sox (1950, 1952-58).  While he had a fairly good professional career as a center fielder, Piersall is better known for his well-publicized battle with bipolar disorder that became the subject of the movie Fear Strikes Out.

A fearsome power hitter whose strength earned him the moniker “The Beast,” Jimmie Foxx was the anchor of an intimidating Philadelphia Athletics lineup that produced pennant winners from 1929 to 1931. Vintage ballpoint signature and inscription, “Jimmie Foxx, My best to the O’Connell Boys,” on an off-white 4.25 x 5.5 sheet. A couple light diagonal creases through first letter of signature and a few other wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA.

The "Babe Ruth" Scene!

The Pride of the Yankees (RKO, 1942). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). One of the greatest baseball films ever made, this classic starred Gary Cooper as the Iron Horse himself, Lou Gehrig! The producers of the film missed a sure thing when they forgot to put Babe Ruth (who appeared in the film as himself) on the posters! But he did appear on the one lobby card which is featured here! An exceptional find ! 

The card has a 2 inch diagonal tear in the right side from border into the image. It has been supported with tape on the verso. There is also brown paper tape on two edges of the backside of the card. Otherwise in excellent condition and a historical lobby card with the Babe himself!

Liston vs. Patterson (Allied Artists, 1963).  Beautiful vintage film poster one sheet (27x41") based on the fight between Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson in which Liston destroyed Patterson.  Liston, considered unbeatable and lethal would soon experience his own mortality against a young Gold Medallist a couple years later by the name of Cassius Clay.

Ironically eight years later there would again be an even more dangerous,  "indestructible” fighter by the name of George Foreman that the media said Muhammad Ali would have no chance against.

This poster has amazing graphics of the fighters and has been professionally linen backed.  One of the nicest we have seen.

Stunning vintage contrast to this very rare historic photo. This IS NOT just an old photo but an official wire service photo used by news services across the world. On the back is the original news organization stamp.

IN addition to my personal experience writing to Ali in the late 80's early 90's and clearly recognizing his genuine signature and handwriting (including his unique writing of numbers) it has ALSO been PSA certified.  This autographed boxing glove has been deemed authentic by PSA/DNA and comes with a tamper-proof label affixed with a matching serial number.   You can look up this item on PSADNA.COM.  Ali included an inscription that has been partly rubbed off.  But, the signature and date are beautifully bold and clear, one of his BETTER signatures I've seen, before his signature became quite illegible due to his illness.   These authentically signed gloves are skyrocketing in value for obvious reasons. To get one from such places as Stiener's you will pay around $2000 (and rising).

It is a hand written note to James c Smith "Serve God, he is the Goal 2-20-90" it measures approximately 11" x 14".  An exceptional Ali autograph with rare, valuable personal quote. And, the first time we have seen an autographed note on his personal stationery from his home in Illinois.

As voted Athlete of the Century there is no place to go but UP for Genuine Muhammad Ali autographed material. "The Rumble in the Jungle", 1974

This is an original fight poster to the fight dubbed "The Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) and George Foreman held in Zaire , Africa on October 30, 1974.  

Size: 14x18"

This was the first heavyweight championship fight ever fought in Africa !! And, it is the most famous and most heavily depicted heavyweight fight in history pitting these two former Olympic Gold Medal winners, the much heavily favored Foreman against the underdog, Ali. Foreman was undefeated up until this time. The critics, the world believed Foreman was invincible. He made such quick work over Joe Frazier and Ken Norton that I remember the ring side announcers joking that "Forman must have left the car running". 

Ultimately it was a fight that proved Ali was "The Greatest," as he defeated Foreman in the 8th round. Ali allowed Foreman to punch himself out as Ali performed his famous "Rope-A-Dope," technique. And, at the right moment, Ali unleased a flurry of lightening speed punches that just overwhelmed the giant Foreman and sent him to the canvas as the world looked on in disbelief. As a result of this fight, Muhammad Ali was named Fighter of the Year by Ring magazine, and "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated! Ali also received the honor of being named Professional Athlete of the Year and received the 1974 Hickok Belt Award.  But, maybe his highest honor was on December 20, 1999 when Sports Illustrated named Muhammad Ali "Athlete of the Century".

The significance of this RARE poster cannot be understated!  The poster offered here was actually made for the fight that took place and was actually used to promote it!!  The new date, due to Foreman's trainign injury, is stamped in the upper left.

Poster is printed on cardboard, great color and design graphics. This particular one is in the best condition of any we have acquired over the past 20 years. No fold lines or crease marks like most we have seen. It still has a slight glossy tone to it.  Near Mint Condition. . The most desirable poster for this most significant fight that the boxing world have ever seen. (Other than Zaire site poster that sells for 10-15 thousand dollars)

Here is really rare, unusual piece of 19th Century Sports Americana.  A  9 x 11" Tribute broadside published sometime after his defeat from Jim Corbett in 1892. The tribute wishes John Sullivan well in his career. At the bottom is a tribute poem to Sullivan from James Murphy.   Great image of the retired boxing champion from Boston.

Very Rare Style, Original 1971 poster for "The Fight of the Century" -- the boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Frazier and Ali were both undefeated prior to the fight (Frazier won). This was -- in the words of an ESPN Classic commentator, "perhaps the most anticipated event in all of sports history."
Used for the exclusive showing in Harlem. Created by Italian artist Piatti, it features a glove with eyes at the center and globe in a mouth.  Excellent condition.

Muhammad Ali Autograph on card

Muhammad Ali hand signed card. This is actually half of the card that was sent to him, so you see the floral decoration on the backside that used to be the front of the card. His autograph simply says, "Thank you, Muhammad Ali 3-24-96", this is not addressed to anyone.

Muhammad Ali was one of the few famous celebrities to actually sign mail autograph request himself and NOT delegate to a secretary.  His wife confirmed this in a 1998 60 Minutes interview in which she stated Ali would NOT allow anyone to sign his name for him. She also told Morley Safer that Muhammad Ali strongly believed that every time he signs an autograph request, it brings him one step closer to God.  I vividly remember that interview because I personally wrote Ali several times in the late 80’s, early 90’s and he was always MORE then generous. He would always adds cute notes to the photos and he would throw in a few signed Muslim Pamphlets, which I still have all he sent me.   I thus became intimately knowledgeable of his handwriting and signature over the past 20 years.

Highly Scarce N-28 Allen & Ginters, John L. Sullivan Tobacco Boxing Card issued in 1887. This card of Sullivan has a clean clear image and is in very good-fine condition. it has a light/Moderate crease through the middle. Back of card has slight paper loss.  A very presentable and quite striking card of "The Boston Strong Boy".  About the best artwork of Sullivan of all trade cards issued on him.   Back lists athletes in the set.

This is a rare, unusal photo on heavy card stock of Jack Johnson. A nice image of Johnson with a sign in the background "Drink Jack Johnson Whiskey".  On the back is written in pencil "Jack Johnson Champion".  It is not an autograph.

John Arthur Johnson (March 31, 1878 – June 10, 1946), better known as Jack Johnson and nicknamed the “Galveston Giant”, was an American boxer and arguably the best heavyweight of his generation. He was the first black Heavyweight Champion of the World (1908-1915), a feat which, for its time, was tremendously controversial. In a documentary about his life, Ken Burns said: “For more than thirteen years, Jack Johnson was the most famous, and the most notorious African-American on Earth.

In 1910, former heavyweight champion James J. Jeffries came out of retirement and said, "I am going into this fight for the sole purpose of proving that a white man is better than a Negro." Jeffries had not fought in six years and had to lose around 100 pounds to try to get back to his championship fighting weight.

At the fight, which took place on July 4, 1910 in front of 22,000 people, at a ring built just for the occasion in downtown Reno, Nevada, the ringside band played, "All coons look alike to me". The fight had become a hotbed of racial tension, and the promoters incited the all-white crowd to chant "kill the nigger".[3] Johnson, however, proved stronger and more nimble than Jeffries. In the 15th round, after he had been knocked down twice for the first time in his career, Jeffries' people called it quits to prevent Johnson from knocking him out.

The "Fight of the Century" earned Johnson $225,000 and silenced the critics, who had belittled Johnson's previous victory over Tommy Burns as "empty", claiming that Burns was a false champion since Jeffries had retired undefeated.

Johnson was an early example of the celebrity athlete, appearing regularly in the press and later on radio and in motion pictures. He earned considerable sums endorsing various products, including patent medicines, and indulged several expensive hobbies such as automobile racing and tailored clothing, as well as purchasing jewelry and furs for his wives.[citation needed] Once, when he was pulled over for a $50 speeding ticket (a large sum at the time), he gave the officer a $100 bill, telling him to keep the change as he was going to make his return trip at the same speed. Johnson was also interested in opera (his favorite being Il Trovatore) and in history — he was an admirer of Napoleon Bonaparte, believing him to have risen from a similar origin as himself.

Johnson continued fighting, but age was catching up with him. After two losses in 1928 he participated only in exhibition bouts.

Johnson died in a car crash near Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1946, aged 68, just one year before Jackie Robinson broke the "color line" in Major League Baseball. He was buried next to Etta Duryea at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. His grave is unmarked, but a stone that bears only the name "Johnson" stands above the plots of him and two of his wives.

1938 Wheaties cereal box panel, "Dress Clothes" Series 11, #2 Jimmie Foxx.  About 6" X 8".  Very good condition, less than perfect cut out from cereal box, has been removed from a scrap book, reverse has some staining, paper loss, surface roughness and paper/residue from scrapbook removal.  Nice colors and should display nicely.

RARE Original 1928 Wire Photo

The world's second great home run hitter was Jimmie Foxx.

After Babe Ruth, he got to 500 homers next, in 1940. Foxx came up as a catcher before moving to first base, and in this ultra-rare photo his glove itself appears to be making the transition while on his hand. Call it a XX-File.

Most archive photos of Foxx show him late in his career with the Red Sox. This picture, from 1928 shows him at the age of 20 with the Philadelphia Athletics. For the next three the Yankees would play second-fiddle to the Philadelphia powerhouse led by Foxx and Lefty Grove, who many believe to be the greatest left-handed pitcher of all time.

DESCRIPTION

A pair of items in relation to the July 26, 1971 bout between Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Ellis. (1) The first is an Original UN-Used FULL Ticket to a telecast of the fight between the two ex-Champions printed by the National Ticket Co. measuring 3" x 5.5" in NM/MT condition. (2) The second is an original wire photo issued by the United Press on July 26, 1971 depicting the two fighters in the ring in 1st round action measuring 8-1/4" x 10-5/8". Two terrific Ali pieces that would look outstanding framed and matted together.

You are bidding on a completely original "Thrilla in Manila" boxing poster from 1975. Ali-Frazier III. This is the only us poster from the most famous modern fight featuring perennial foes Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. 14" x 22", with a color painted of Ali and Frazier by noted sports artist Leroy Neiman. Direct from Kuala Lumpur, Malasia and Madison Square Garden, NY live on the big screen closed circut tv. WOW! The poster was originally folded but is now nice and flat measuring 14" by 22". Great condition, no tears or stains.

ALSO included in this auction is an original, unused ticket from the same event for the theatre telecast at the Albany Armory in New York.

Muhammad Ali vs Ken Norton
Fight 3 Original Telecast Poster

11 by 17 inches on posterboard type heavy paper, appears to be an original 1976 poster promoting closed circuit viewing at the providence Civiv Center.

On this day in 1976, Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton completed the final chapter of their trilogy at Yankee Stadium in New York. Norton shocked Ali in their first fight in 1973 by breaking his jaw and winning a split decision. Their rematch in 1973 also ended with a split decision, but this time in Ali’s favor. When the two met three years later in 1976, Ali was the champion and Norton had won his last seven fights. Norton dominated the first several rounds. Ali, his body weary from age, brutal bouts with Joe Frazier and George Foreman, and injuries suffered in his exhibition match with Antonio Inoki, tried to keep his distance from Norton. However, the challenger managed to close in and attack Ali on the ropes repeatedly throughout the fight. The wily champion used his expertise and skill to pick up later rounds, and the fight was dead even going into the 15th. The final round was very close, but in the end, the judges had the score 8-7, 8-7, and 8-6 for Ali. The bout was not without controversy. Many at ringside felt that Norton won the bout, and chock this victory up as one of the questionable decisions Ali received in the final years of his career. To this day, Norton himself still insists that he won the fight. While Ali’s three bouts with Frazier left fans in awe of “The Greatest,” his trilogy with Norton left us with the most questions.

1935 Quaker Oats BABE RUTH Premium Watch FOB Scorer

Very rare Babe Ruth vintage sports treasure

Between 1934 to 1935, the Quaker Oats Company offered Babe Ruth endorsed premiums that were available through mail order with redemption of box tops from its cereal. The offered item is one of those goodies, the watch FOB scorer. Measuring 2” in height, this handheld scorer allowed the fan to keep score of a baseball game by turning the dials on the verso. One of the dials does not turn, the others operate fine. FOB Scorer has an excellent appearance with a clean front and back Ruth’s big smiling face appears on this terrific little memento.

Here is the early 1940's re-release of this western classic starring baseball legend Lou Gehrig.  Great artwork and images of Gehrig! Even better then the original 1938 release poster. Very good condition with some wear at the folds. Would look great linen backed. (we can recommend a good linen backer).

Rawhide (20th Century Fox, 1938). One Sheet (27" X 41"). In his only full-length feature film performance, Lou Gehrig (playing himself) goes to his sister's ranch in Montana after his baseball career is over. He uncovers an extortion plot, and with the help of Scott Ballew, foils the plans. There is a great bar-room scene in the film where Gehrig launches billiard balls at the bad guys. Gehrig was lauded for his performance, and many at the time thought he had a shot at an acting career. A must for any Lou Gehrig, or New York Yankees Baseball fan.

An unrestored program with bright color and a clean overall appearance. Aalso included is a letter from First National Pictures on Babe Comes Home stationary, dated June 16, 1927, the same year the film was released. The letter has two punch wholes on top.

This is the film biopic of NFL hall-of-famer Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, who played for the Chicago Rockets 1946-1948 (AAFC), and the Los Angeles Rams 1949-1957 (NFL). After retiring from football, Hirsch had a brief career in the movies, not only playing himself in this film biography, but also starring in the movies "Unchained" in 1955 and "Zero Hour" in 1957. The poster features a fantastic image of Hirsch in the classic "Heisman" pose.

Ingemst Johannson was a very popular champion. Unlike the moody, introspective Patterson, Johansson enjoyed the limelight. He appeared on television, made a movie, and even cut a hit record in Sweden. Many critics believed that the charismatic Swede was the best thing to happen to boxing in years. While the victor cavorted in public, the vanquished lived in a self-imposed exile. Criticized in the past for a lack of killer instinct, Patterson became a man consumed by hate, a hate that served him well in the rematch staged in the Polo Grounds.

Many predicted a rerun of their first fight, including Johansson. He was fond of telling anyone who would listen that the next time he hit Patterson with old "Toonder" the referee might as well count to a thousand. And history was on his side as well. Never had a heavyweight champion regained the title after losing it, though many had tried.

Unfortunately for Johansson, a different Patterson showed up on the night of June 20, 1960. Fighting with an intensity missing in the first match, Patterson negated Johansson's counter punching with tremendous pressure. Johansson's "Toonder" found the mark only once, in the second round, but Patterson took it well and Johansson couldn't follow up. When in close, Patterson worked the body furiously, and when on the outside he fired a hard left jab that had the dual effect of hurting Johansson and keeping his big right hand from exploding. Early in the fifth, Johansson was dropped to the canvass for the first time in his career. He made it up at the count of nine, but he was in bad shape. Patterson attacked in a frenzy; punches poured in from every angle. During the attack, Johansson lost his equilibrium and found himself turned around, vulnerable to the same back-of-the-head blow that he struck Patterson with a year earlier. Patterson passed on the cheap shot and whirled him around with his right hand and threw his trademark punch, a leaping left hook. It was a direct hit. Johansson crashed to the floor in much the same way Patterson had when hit by "Toonder" a year earlier. But unlike Patterson, Johansson didn't get up. Many at ringside feared for his life as blood trickled out of the left corner of his mouth and his right foot twitched in a manner that suggested brain damage. Floyd Patterson became the first man in history to regain the heavyweight title.
