Issued by the Dept. of Justice for Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. It is on original D.O.J. paper stock and in excellent condition. Contains their criminal records, relatives, descriptions of each etc.

Rare Frank Sinatra's Cal Neva Lodge Lighter

This is one of the most desirable and collectible casino and Frank Sinatra related items of all. Condition - EXCELLENT! Whoever owned this piece, certainly wanted to preserve its condition as it is now being presented with almost NO lacquer wear. . Printed/engraved on lighter is "Frank SInatra's Cal Neva Lodge" . These are neat mini lighters about 1.5" x 1.75"

Frank Sinatra was known to give these lighters to friends who visited him at the lodge.

During the time this item was made, Frank Sinatra was at a very high point in his life and career and figured that it would be great to partner up with buddy Dean Martin and silent partner, Chicago mob boss, Sam "Momo" Giancana, and others to run his own casino, the Cal Neva Lodge. However, Nevada gaming commission regulations prohibited the attendance of any known criminals at any of its licensed gaming facilities. Since the FBI was watching the Cal Neva closely, they reported that mob boss Sam Giancana did visit the facility and his presence was acknowledged by Frank Sinatra. As a result, Frank Sinatra lost his gaming license for the Cal Neva. Years later, in the early 1980s, Frank would redeem himself before the Nevada gaming commission and win his license back after grueling testimony by himself, Kirk Douglas, the Los Angeles sheriff, and many others. It's interesting to note that in Frank Sinatra's testimony, he stated that he never saw Sam Giancana at the Cal Neva.

As you can see from above, this particular Cal Neva lighter from Frank Sinatra's ownership is highly collectible and desirable not because of any hype but because of its true value derived from (1) the richness of this true story; (2) the rarity of this item; (3) the condition and appearance of this item; AND (4) the fact that this was the only time in Frank Sinatra's life that he owned a casino outright, even though it was for only 2 years.

Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman

This is an original fight poster to the fight dubbed "The Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) and George Foreman held in Zaire , Africa on October 30, 1974.

Size: 14x16"

This was the first heavyweight championship fight ever fought in Africa !! And, it is the most famous and most heavily depicted heavyweight fight in history pitting these two former Olympic Gold Medal winners, the much heavily favored Foreman against the underdog, Ali. Foreman was undefeated up until this time. The critics, the world believed Foreman was invincible. He made such quick work over Joe Frazier and Ken Norton that I remember the ring side announcers joking that "Forman must have left the car running".

Ultimately it was a fight that proved Ali was "The Greatest," as he defeated Foreman in the 8th round. Ali allowed Foreman to punch himself out as Ali performed his famous "Rope-A-Dope," technique. And, at the right moment, Ali unleased a flurry of lightening speed punches that just overwhelmed the giant Foreman and sent him to the canvas as the world looked on in disbelief. As a result of this fight, Muhammad Ali was named Fighter of the Year by Ring magazine, and "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated! Ali also received the honor of being named Professional Athlete of the Year and received the 1974 Hickok Belt Award. But, maybe his highest honor was on December 20, 1999 when Sports Illustrated named Muhammad Ali "Athlete of the Century".

The significance of this RARE poster cannot be understated! The poster offered here was actually made for the fight that took place and was actually used to promote it!! The new date, due to Foreman's trainign injury, is stamped in the upper left.

Poster is printed on cardboard, great color and design graphics. It has some wear, more proof of it's authenticity including a couple old tape stains , one on left and right side borders not affecting any artwork or graphics. But, overall has maintained a very good condition formthe past 35 years. The most desirable poster for this most significant fight that the boxing world have ever seen. (Other than Zaire site poster that sells for 10-15 thousand dollars)

Swatch from Clyde Barrows Death Pants

Over the years I have never been attracted to collecting personal artifacts like celebrity clothing, strands of hair and other personal articles because unlike autographs there is really nothing that can be authenticated (unless DNA is involved). However, I am so impressed by the extraordinary provenance that comes with this historical item it was very easy for me to get excited. Below is the detailed description from the original owner.

Outlaw History for sale: this is a 1" swatch cut from the actual death trousers worn by Clyde Barrow on the day he and Bonnie Parker were ambushed near Gibsland, La. on May 23, 1934.

Clyde Barrows trousers and shirt that he wore that day were kept in the Barrow family until Butterfield & Butterfield auctioned off the bullet riddled shirt on April 14th 1997 in San Francisco - it fetched $85,000 (purchased by Whiskey Pete's Casino who also owns the actual death car) and the global media coverage was extensive. The trousers were cut into 870 swatches and affixed to ornate parchment like certificates numbered and hand signed by the late Marie Barrow, Clyde's sister. She co-authored the book, "The Family Story of Bonnie and Clyde," with Phillip Steele (book not included). I was Marie Barrow's business partner and we used to sell these swatch certificates through Old West magazine ads, Autograph Collector magazine ads, and memorabilia & gun shows until she passed away in 1999. This is one of the few of these limited edition certificates left. Near mint condition accompanied with a copy of the notarized certificate by Marie Barrow attesting to the authenticity of the item and the history of the artifact. Also included is a copy of a Tulsa World newspaper article interviewing Marie and making mention of her guest appearance at the Tulsa Book & Paper Fair on November 21, 1998 and stating that she would be selling the signed, limited edition swatch certificates!

** UPDATE: As many of you know this is the 50th anniversary of B&C's death. Hence, two biographies were just released including the critically acclaimed "Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde" by Jeff Guinn. AND, in this book on page 259 it mentions this very "pants swatch" and how Clyde's sister partnered with a memorabilia dealer to cut his "death pants" into 800 pieces and offer each with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Yes, these swatches are mentioendin a Bonnie & Clyde best seller. Offered is number 236 out of the edition of 870. Size of certificate is 8 1/2 X 11".

Possibly the most extraordinary Frank Sinatra piece we have ever acquired. We rarely acquire personal items of celebrities, however once in a while only when solid provenance is available do we make an exception. This is one of those rare cases. This museum worthy item comes with detailed written letter of provenance from an extraordinary person and friend of Frank Sinatra, ALONG with a photo of the legendary Joe Franklin himself holding the hat.

One of the single most image-defining items associated with Sinatra (aside from the blue eyes, of course), offered here is a vintage black Bloomingdales fedora hat personally owned and worn by the legendary crooner himself! Personally gifted by Sinatra to famed talk show host Joe Franklin and his "Memory Lane" collection of memorabilia, Franklin states in the letter of provenance, "This wonderful and long-cherished item of Frank Sinatra and Entertainment history...has been a very important part of my Memory Lane Collection of Memorabilia...Frank retired this particular fedora hat to my care in 1979-80...when he was peforming a "spring cleaning" of his New York City residence. You can find countless references of information on Joe Franklin online (just type his name in Google). Also, an extensive Wikipedia page is written on him. Also, there are several videos on YouTube (see below) including an interview in which he states his two best friends were Rudy Vallee and Frank Sinatra. Also, you can read a great NY Times article about Joe Franklin here. We cannot overstate the historical and collectible value of this item.

*UPDATE: On January 6, 2009, I contacted and spoke to Joe Franklin about this hat. Mr Franklin well remembers the hat (and regrets sending it to an auction house and said he would love to have the hat back, he made me a surprising offer). He recalls the time Frank Sinatra, while in Mr. SInatra's Waldorf apartment, offered him the hat. He said he clearly recalls when this took place because Mr. Sinatra also gave him two bibles. Joe then went on to tell me he had a couple other extraordinary items such as Boris Karloff's makeup kit which was given to Joe while Karloff was doing a play in NYC (I think Joe said play was Peter Pan). He then told me (and then sent me photos) that the kit originally had Karloff’s dentures. The dentures were later confirmed authentic by Los Angeles forensic dental surgeon, Dr. Jay Grossman – an expert government witness, and John Travolta’s Personal dentist.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

1942 - Beautiful Original Vintage lobby card from this 1942 Holiday classic. Bing Crosby decides to leave the show and move to a country homer in Connecticut. A true, immortal classic. Excellent condition for a 67 year old lobby card! No tears or creases. However, someone did rub what looks like an eraser across the bottom as seen in the image. Also, a child apparently wrote some pencil marks on man's (think Walter Abel) black robe, which can't be seen unless tilted under a light.  This minor flaws can be easily restored with minor touch up by professional restorer like Studio C for probably no more then $40-50.  Hence, we have lowered the price to more then compensate for the minor touch up work.

That being said the major Christmas classic card is beautiful with rich colors and great graphics of the leading cats members.

Beautiful Vintage 8x10" sepia toned photograph of Laurel & Hardy, signed by same in blue ink to bottom margin. Inscription reads "Hello Jean! Stan Laurel Oliver Hardy". Top left cornerf has a crease not affecting the image area.  Some grime residue on outer border around photo.  The good news is it comes off rather easily. I was able to easily scrap off a small section with my fingernail.  But, will leave any cleaning up to the new owner.

"WallStreet Cowboy" - 1939
Molybdenum is a hard, gray metallic element used to toughen alloy steels and soften tungsten alloy. It is also used in fertilizers, dyes and enamels. Well, anyway, Roy's ranch is full of the stuff and an evil Wall Street syndicate wants to foreclose on the ranch when Roy has trouble making his mortgage payment.

Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers) goes back east, with his two pals Gabby (George Hayes) and Chuckawalla (Raymond Hatton), to try and raise funds to pay off the mortgage on his ranch. He approaches an old friend of his father's, Roger Hammond (Pierre Watkin), a Wall Street financier, but meets with a rebuff due to the fumbling tactics of his two well-meaning friends, and the machinations of Hammond's race-horse trainer, Tony McGrath (Craig Reynolds), who is working with a gang back west, headed by Miles (Ivan Miller) and Bainbridge (Reginald Barlow), to take over the ranch because of the rich mineral deposits on the property that Roy is unaware of. Roy sings "Me and the Rollin' Sand," "Ridin' Down the Rainbow Trail" and "Ride 'em Cowboy" and Louisiana Lou kicks in with "That's My Louisiana."

There is slight toning in the borders, some wrinkling and corner wear with minor edge wear. The image pops with rich color and multiple focal points, reflecting the visual variety of the film. A beautiful piece with endearing charm.

Lincoln & Hamlin: Superb 1860 Campaign Two-Sided Ferrotype. 24mm. A beautiful ferrotype in choice condition featuring a portrait of a clean-shaven Lincoln with his running mate, Hannibal Hamlin, on the obverse. Bright and beautiful with only a minor nick to the right of Lincoln not affecting his image. 

Note:  The majority of these that appear on the market either have the images completely gone or severely disfigured.   This is an exceptionally nice, rarely seen  example!

1864

Incredible, Extremely Scarce - 1864 Lincoln & Johnson Ferrotype. Serious Lincoln collectors will appreciate the RARITY of this Historical Lincoln treasure. These "type" examples of a round, bearded 1864 Lincoln & Johnson ferro are much scarcer than the 1860 versions with Lincoln & Hamlin.

The major auction houses like Heritage Historical Signature auctions have recorded about ten Lincoln/Hamlin campaign tokens sold over the past five years. A Lincoln/Johnson 1864 Campaign token, ONLY ONE! And, that one is not even as rare as this token which has the "bearded Lincoln" image but has printed on the token "FOR PRESIDENT 1864" then on the ferrotype image "A. Lincoln" and on the reverse, "FOR VICE PRESIDENT 1864" , then on the image “A. Johnson”. The single 1864 campaign token that appeared on the market about 4 years ago did NOT have "FOR PRESIDENT” printed on it and it only had “Lincoln” without the first initial. This may be one of the very few of it’s kind in existence!

And, it is in amazing condition! NOTE: None of the typical image corrosion, scratches, pieces missing you normally see on these Lincoln campaign tokens.

UPDATE: NOT ONLY Amazing Condition, but possibly the BEST Condition Lincoln/Johnson campaign token in existence! Just remarkable. The Lincoln image is just Perfect! The Johnson has the slightest couple needle specs. It literally looks as though it had been put away for the past 150 years and accumulated dust around the edges of the token.

A truly rare and very important find!! A few months ago we acquired the more common Lincoln/Hamlin 1860 campaign token which sold within a day. This MUCH RARER gem is sure to not last long amongst our special clients who collect Historical & Abraham Lincoln artifacts

Remco "Addams Family, Lurch" Character Toy, 1964

"Rare" original "Lurch" figure from the Television Series, The Addams Family. It is in Very Good Condition and measures 5 1/2" tall. Lurch has a rubber head and the body is vinyl. Marked on back, (see picture), "LURCH, The Addams Family, 1964 Filmways TV Prod. Inc Excellent condition, to go with the Filmways "Fester" we are offering. .

Here is an original "The Thing" bank , star of the Addams Family. Put a coin on top and "Things" hand comes out and grabs it. Quite rare for a 44 year old toy. Be sure to see our other "Addams Family" rare toys along with other Original 60's TV toys & collectibles.

Condition: This is the BEST conditon one of these we have ever seen, near mint. The box is excellent+ - Near Mint!  However, when I put batteries in it did not work.  I am sure someone with technical apptitude could fix it.

1964 - This is an awesome mint unused example. In ORIGINAL Box, NEVER REMOVED! The box is as straight and perfect as the day it was made over 40 years ago . Hard to imagine surviving in this kind of shape after all these years. No litho splits or tears anywhere. One of the nicest boxed examples that you will ever find. Still has its original price tag for 1.29

A real TREASURE!! You could spend a lifetime looking for one of these, in this un-used condition, as though it was sitting on Woolworth's shelf for the past 42 years!!!

Here is a very rare, apparently unused Colorforms Set. The pieces look as though they have never been moved from the piece panels. All pieces except for one of Wendy's shoes and Comex's bat are present. Also oriignal instruction sheet included. Excellent condition.

Public Enemy #1

THE Famous shot taken at Dearborn Station in downtown Chicago by the Chicago Tribune of Al Capone is found on this RARE Vintage 1932 ORIGINAL News Service Photograph. This renowned shot of the most infamous of gangsters has been seen in countless books, manuscripts, publications, films and documentaries over the years. It depicts what appears to be a confident Capone, the Don of the Chicago Outfit looking as if he is still ‘the man’, on top of the world, as he smiles for the camera surrounded by intimidating men in hats and trench coats.

In reality, these were not Capone’s men but rather an army of U.S. Marshals who are escorting the convicted gangster through the train station as they prepared to board a train that will take the convoy to the U.S. Federal Penitentiary in Atlanta. Capone who appears free to roam is actually handcuffed, his hands are in his pocket to purposely conceal the irons that link him to a petty thief, one Vito Morici who was also heading to the big house as well. As they walked through the crowd, Capone who was always conscious about his public ‘image’, indicating to Morici’s topcoat, said to him, "Throw it over your arms so nobody see the handcuffs".

This unique, vintage 1932 silver-gelatin photograph taken by a staff photographer at the Chicago Tribune is one of the few surviving rare, period originals and is unique as it was the actual one kept on file at the Tribune and used in their papers at the time the event happened. The original newspaper clipping from when the photo appeared the following day, along with a MAY 4 1932 date stamp is on the verso of this specimen measuring 7-1/4" x 10". In addition, it was also used in publication on at least two other occasions some six decades later with two other newspaper clippings affixed on the verso. The photograph has some wear around the perimeter but the central image is relatively unaffected and been preserved nicely. One of the finest Capone photographs extant.

A Very Rare Title Card to surface on the market. The first we have acquired in 20 years. For whatever reason there just are not many posters that survived from this Hitchcock classic. This fine specimen is in excellent condition.

Lifeboat was Alfred Hitchcock's only film for 20th Century Fox. It is not widely remembered nowadays - certainly not in the way that Psycho, North By Northwest and Rebecca are remembered - but it still ranks very highly in the director's canon. In the film Hitchcock demonstrates a fascination with restricting the action to a single set. He would return later in his career to the concept of single set stories, for movies such as Rope, Dial M For Murder and Rear Window. It is an approach that would bring most directors to their knees, but Hitch rises to the challenge admirably, finding ingenious ways to maintain audience interest and providing a ceaseless undercurrent of excitement.

A passenger ship torpedoed by a German U-Boat sinks in the Atlantic Ocean. Well-groomed society lady Constance Porter (Tallulah Bankhead, in an absolutely outstanding performance) successfully mans one of the sunken ship's lifeboats and steers it around the debris in search of survivors. She picks up various types from the sea, including injured sailor Gus Smith (William Bendix), crewman John Kovac (John Hodiak) and the German U-Boat captain (Walter Slezak) whose own submarine was critically damaged in the attack. The dynamic of the group is severely strained by the German's presence, as the other survivors contemplate and argue over whether to toss him to the sharks, or put their trust in him to steer their lifeboat to safety.

Slezak is very good as the tricky German, deviously keeping a stash of water to himself while the others struggle against chronic thirst, and at one point murdering a fellow survivor to keep his water supply a secret. Hitchcock and his script-writer Jo Swerling wisely let us in on the German's true nature, while the characters surrounding him are unaware of his treachery. This keeps tension on a knife-edge throughout the film, and holds the viewer in suspense for the whole story. Similarly, Bankhead's casting is so unorthodox, her character so intentionally ill-fitting to the oceanic setting, that her role in the proceedings casts a strange fascination. The film has a lot of political and propagandist subtext, and many people have viewed it as an allegory of the Nazi rise in Europe (Slezak is the metaphor for Nazi Germany; the others metaphors for surrounding nations duped into believing that the Nazi neighbour in their midst is helpful and trustworthy). Whatever else Lifeboat can and can't be interpreted as, one thing is certain - it's a mighty fine movie!

President Andrew Jackson 1835 signed check. Drawn on the bank of the metropolis, Washington D.C. and dated November 4th, 1835. Made payable to J.D. Woodsedes for $10.00. The signature is beautiful and unaffected by the cancellation. The check has some very minor imperfections but is an extremely nice example of a Jackson check from his presidential days. The check comes from the Marshall b. Coyne collection.

Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States, was the dominant actor in American politics between Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Born to obscure parents and orphaned in youth, he was the first "self-made man" and the first westerner to reach the White House. He became a democratic symbol and founder of the Democratic Party, the country's most venerable political organization. During his two-term presidency, he expanded executive powers and transformed the President's role from chief administrator to popular tribune.

Jackson's presidency defined itself in two central episodes: the nullification crisis and the "Bank War." Jackson took office amid mounting sectional acrimony over the "American System" program of fostering economic development through transportation subsidies and through protective tariffs on imports to aid American manufacturers. Many Southerners believed these policies promoted Northern growth at their expense. Jackson curbed the American System by vetoing road and canal bills beginning with the Maysville Road in 1830. However, in 1832 the state of South Carolina declared the existing tariff unconstitutional, null and void. The state took steps to block tariff collections within its borders. Though he favored a lower tariff, Jackson acted quickly to uphold federal supremacy -- by force, if necessary. In a ringing proclamation, he declared the Union indivisible and branded nullification as treason. Congress reduced the tariff in 1833, defusing the crisis.

Jackson secured the presidential succession in 1836 to his faithful lieutenant and second vice president, Martin Van Buren. He then retired to The Hermitage, his cotton plantation near Nashville, where he died in 1845.

When it comes to early presidential collecting ONLY invest in historical Signed DOCUMENTS. NEVER buy a clipped signature of ANY President, particularly on Ebay were nearly 100% are forgeries.

Other then one sold at Heritage last year, this is one of the first Andrew Jackson checks we have ever seen in 20 years of collecting. An exceptional RARE historical, museum-quality investment!

Rare Personal Letter from Sherlock Holmes to Clifton Webb

Basil Rathbone Autograph Letter Signed "Basil & Ouida" to Clifton Webb, one page, plain stationery, 6.75" x 10", New York, January 9, 1963. It begins: "Dear Cliffy. We heard you were in hospital in Houston Texas. How could you desert the Great State of California for the Greater State of Texas!..." He goes on to talk about their long friendship, the NY newspaper strike, Mabel's passing, and he asks Clifton to get in touch with them. Also in this lot are two 10" x 8" B&W photos showing the Rathbones, David Niven, Mabelle Webb and others at a dinner party. All three items are in excellent condition. A portion of the letter's original mailing envelope is included.

Help! (United Artists, 1965). Three Sheet (41" X 81"). This was the second film to feature the Fab Four, made to take advantage of the explosion of interest in the Beatles worldwide in the mid-1960s. Ringo Starr is the focus here, as he's pursued by a weird cult who have marked him for human sacrifice due to his inadvertent possession of a sacred ring. It's up to band mates John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney to help bail him out as the cult chases them to a variety of exotic locales. Along the way, of course, there's music, including "Ticket to Ride," "You're Going to Lose That Girl," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and the title song.

This extremely rare and desirable three sheet is in excellent condition and has been professionally linen backed. Rarely does the Three Sheet for this title appear in the marketplace.
