Original 5x7" photo, vintage signed and inscribed in fountain pen by legendary horror actor Boris Karloff. Photo is attached with tape on the back to an 8x10" matt. Comes with the original envelope, postmarked 1950, also in Karloff's own distinctive and recognizable hand. Exceptional piece!

Karloff was Hollywood's most successful boogeyman, an actor whose menacing mien scared the heck out of several generations of film fans. The son of a family of British diplomats, he eschewed foreign-service work in favor of acting, emigrating to Canada and eventually touring with small companies all over North America. He made his screen debut as an extra in "The Dumb Girl of Portici" (1916), but didn't approach film work in earnest until 1919, when he appeared with Douglas Fairbanks in "His Majesty, The American." Having resigned himself to work as a character actor, Karloff was more than happy to assume a role originally offered to "Dracula" star Bela Lugosi, who refused it on the ground that he would be unrecognizable under heavy makeup in a part with no dialogue -Karloff played the lumbering monster in "Frankenstein" (1931), a physically demanding assignment that made him a star. Considered a late bloomer in Hollywood, "Frankenstein" premiered when he was 44 years old. Interestingly, he narrated TV's "How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" (1966), and was the original inspiration for the first illustrations of the Incredible Hulk. Karloff died in 1969.

We have never acquired a Karloff autograph of this caliber, with the Original mailing envelop all handwritten in his own hand! In the days of massive internet auction site forgeries , here is a chance to own the genuine Karloff signed photo with great provenance!

VERY RARE - DS, two pages both sides, 8.5 x 11, Triad Artists letterhead, April 1, 1989. Standard AFTRA exclusive agency contract for a period of one year at the usual commission rate of 10 percent. Gwynne has signed on the reverse of the second page. Gwynne has also initialed the contract twice. In fine condition, with usual staples, a couple of ink office notations, a bit of overlapping of Gwynne's and another's signatures.

Here is an outstanding 8 1/2" X 11" black and white photo of the great Frank Sinatra and Walter Winchell, AUTHENTICALLY SIGNED BY BOTH! The scan doesn't do this item justice but this photo was signed for a famous dancer of the time, "Joy" (don't know her last name). Frank Sinatra's signature is VERY SLIGHTLY smeared from the wet ink. That said, it is one of the nicest Sinatra signatures we have seen. Walter Winchell's endorsement reads, "To Joy - Who isn't very!!! Walter Winchell. Correction to Joy - Who is hardly any! W.W.". It appears that the pen Winchell was initially using ran out of ink so he switched to another pen to complete his signing. VERY RARE COLLECTOR'S PIECE! Both autographs are GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC FOR LIFE! I

Very RARE, especially when 90% of all Sinatra autographs on the market are forgery or secretarial (99.5% fake on ebay).

Below is detailed provenance from the original owner.

In 1975, I, along with my brother John wrote a letter to Groucho Marx in California and told him how much we admired his contributions in the entertainment world and asked if he could autograph a photo to us, and shortly afterwards we received this photo in the mail. It is autographed "To John & Bob Best Always, from Groucho." The photograph does have some staining on the very bottom in the margin, not affecting the image of Groucho or the signature. There is also some tape along the borders of the photo, also not affecting the image or the signature. This auction also includes the original envelope that the item was mailed to us in, a manila envelope. It is stamped in the upper left corner "Groucho Marx Beverly Hills, Calif.", stamped also on left "Do not Bend", addressed to the us ( me and my brother), and stamped on the right is the date and time it was mailed - from Las Angeles, California on October 8, 1975 PM , six days after Groucho's eighty fifth birthday, which was October 2, 1975. The flap of the envelope has some damage to it, when it was opened, and there is some tape on it to keep the entire envelope intact. On September 25,2004, I mailed to PSA/DNA the original photo to be authenticated, without the history of the item. This is because when PSA/DNA examines an item, they will only examine the item itself, that it has to stand on its own merits as to whether it is genuine or not. On Thursday, September 30th,2004, I received the photo back with the letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. PSA/DNA's letter is enclosed in a plastic holder, and is scanned for you, outside of the holder. It is dated Tuesday, September 28, 2004, Re CU20432, certification B92512 and has a photo of the autographed item on their letter. PSA/DNA's certification number, B92512 is on a sticker attached to the back of the autographed photo, and a scan is also provided showing the sticker.

Incredible authenticity and provenance.

Terrific scene lobby card (11x14) from this early Charlie Chan detective film "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island." This is from the original 1939 FOX release starring Sidney Toler as Charlie and Sen Yung as Jimmy. The card shows them both with suspects. There are a few pinholes, a slight corner fold and some edge wear. This is an excellent collectible from perhaps the best entry in the Chan series.

Just do a Google on Tom Ewell and you will see he was a major star in the 40s/50s. If you have seen "The Seven Year Itch" then you know him as Marilyn Monroe's co-star. Size is 8 x10" this is just a beauty!!

A pair of items in relation to the July 26, 1971 bout between Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Ellis. (1) The first is an Original UN-Used FULL Ticket to a telecast of the fight between the two ex-Champions printed by the National Ticket Co. measuring 3" x 5.5" in NM/MT condition. (2) The second is an original wire photo issued by the United Press on July 26, 1971 depicting the two fighters in the ring in 1st round action measuring 8-1/4" x 10-5/8". Two terrific Ali pieces that would look outstanding framed and matted together.

1951 - Nice lobby card featuring Wayne & O'Hara in a memorable romantic scene. They would soon discover they had great chemistry and would go on to make several movies together. This would turn out to be one of the most universally beloved John Wayne roles and films. Very good condition with minor soiling on borders.

* We have been fortunate enough to acquire complete lobby card set (of 8) including the Title Card. Fortunate because it usually takes us several years to even locate one lobby card!

The Quiet Man (1952) is director John Ford's epic romantic comedy - a loving, sentimental, nostalgic tribute to his Irish ancestry and homeland. A rich, beautifully-textured Technicolor presentation deserving of its Color Cinematography award, it was filmed mostly on location in Ireland, although some backdrops and background studio shots were obviously intermixed. Its screenplay was based on Frank Nugent's adaptation of Maurice Walsh's Saturday Evening Post 1933 short story Green Rushes. Ford considered the rollicking, comedy love story one of his favorite films.

[The memorable plot, about the collision course between an anti-materialistic, Irish-American boxer nicknamed 'Trooper Thornton' (Wayne) in the town of Innisfree in the land of his Irish birthplace and a local, mean bully (McLaglen) - further entangled when he falls in love with the man's fiesty, red-haired, materialistic sister (O'Hara) who refuses to consummate her marriage without her dowry (350 Irish pounds in gold), was inspired by a Celtic myth about a monumental battle between two sacred kings (gods) who annually fought for the affections of a queen (or goddess).]

The famous director of westerns had already won Best Director Academy Award Oscars for three previous non-Western films - The Informer (1935), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), and How Green Was My Valley (1941). This sentimental film, Ford's first 'romantic love story,' received a total of seven Academy Awards nominations (including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor - Victor McLaglen, Best Screenplay - Frank Nugent, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound) and won two Oscars: Best Cinematography - Winton Hoch and Archie Stout, and Ford (at 57 years of age) won his fourth and final Best Director Oscar, establishing a record that is still unbeaten.

Because the film was an ambitious, personal pet project and not one of Ford's typical westerns, he was unable to find financial backing from the major Hollywood studios, so he turned to Republic Pictures, a smaller studio regarded as the studio for B-pictures and low-budget westerns. After the financial and critical success of Rio Grande (1950) for the studio, the third of Ford's 'cavalry trilogy,' he convinced Republic Pictures to support him for his next riskier film - an Irish "Taming of the Shrew" tale that was remarkably similar in plot. He brought the same stock company of actors from his western - John Wayne, Victor McLaglen, and Maureen O'Hara - to Ireland to film his humorous, epic romance. In the seventeen years of Republic's existence, it was the first film for the studio that was nominated for Best Picture
