What else needs to be said here. Arguably the most sought after title in the movie poster collecting industry and a certain cinematic masterpiece. A very rare lobby card from the first re-release in 1938. Here is a most dramatic scene as Dr Frankenstein (Colin Clive) holds down the anxious monster. Excellent condition with only the expected wear from age and use including age related toning and tack holes on border corners for theatre display 72 years ago.

It is about every 5 years we acquire one of these lobby cards. WHO will get this one?

Frankenstein (Universal, R-1938). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). This Universal horror classic from director James Whale scared the nation in its 1931 release - so they decided to do it again in 1938. The film, which had made an instant star of 44-year-old Boris Karloff, introduced a whole new generation to Mary Shelly's classic Monster seven years later.

Few images from the last century are so universal as to be a part of the social unconscious. A flat-top head, a pair of bolts in the neck and a skin tone ranging from grey to green; show that to anybody, and they'll say "Frankenstein."

Lon Chaney was the star of what has become one of Universal Studios' greatest horror films. By the time this film was released at the beginning of WWII, the studio was trying to bring life back to the franchise that kept them solvent through the Depression: the monster movie, and they needed a new character. They made a werewolf film some five years prior in "Werewolf of London," but now revisited that character with a more horrific story.

There are horror movie posters collectors that pay tens of thousands of dollars for Hollywood treasures such as an original Frankenstein or Dracula lobby card. But, our absolute favorite has always been the original “Wolf Man”. Nothing scared me more as a child than the Wolf Man. And, for 25 years we have looked and searched the universe for original posters from this horror classic Masterpiece. In particular, the lobby cards have been our most desirable acquisition. . In contrast to the one sheet and half sheets the lobby cards are spectacular. The colors and graphics are amazing. In 25 years we have only owned one of the original lobby cards and it was the insignificant “Gypsy festival “ scene with none of the main characters.

Here is what is considered to be one of the best cards of the set with the unforgettable Maria Ouspenskaya and Claude Rains who played Larry Talbot’s (Chaney/Wolf Man) father. Gorgeous lobby card with stunning colors and close-ups of these two main characters.

Condition is very good. We recently had minor professional restoration to this card. There was a small tear on lower right corner and tape on back. There were two pieces of tape one upper left and middle right borders. The upper left had a small chip out of the border corner. The image area was excellent and free of flaws. The card has now been professionally paperbacked with all those minor border area flaws addressed and now presents in gorgeous Excellent condition, while maintaining its original vintage condition and appearance. In this lobby card we have what many believe to be the real scene stealer in 'The Wolf Man', Maria Ouspenskaya who plays the gypsy woman Maleva (see the review below on IMDB). With giants like Lugosi and Chaney many actors would be intimidated. But, Maria Ouspenskaya rose to the occasion, and then some. I personally believe if there ever was a character actor or actress that we could never get enough of it was Maria Ouspenskaya. She had a surreal and extraordinary presence on the big screen. And, with only a couple dozen films we, the public, was truly robbed of a spectacular talent. Take the time to read het biography in IMDB:

Lon Chaney Jr's signature role is still one of his best performances. 'The Wolf Man' is an undisputed horror classic.

Lon Chaney Jr lived under the shadow of his famous father, but in 'The Wolf Man' he helped create a horror icon that has lasted for over sixty years. Chaney had already shown that he could act in 'Of Mice And Men'(1939). In 'The Wolf Man' he gives another excellent performance, but this movie was both a blessing and a curse to his career I think. It forever labeled him a horror actor, and frankly he made a lot of lousy movies after this. Some good ones too, don't get me wrong, but too often he was given b-grade material to work with. Maybe his drinking problem had a lot to do with it, I don't know, but apart from a strong cameo in 'The Defiant Ones'(1958) and a great performance in Jack Hill's cult classic 'Spider Baby'(1964), he rarely was given a role as good as Larry Talbot in this movie.

Chaney is surrounded by a very strong supporting cast including horror legends Claude Rains ('The Invisible Man') and Bela Lugosi (sadly only a cameo), Ralph Bellamy ('His Girl Friday'), and frequent costar Evelyn Ankers (she and Chaney made a great on screen couple but apparently hated each other off screen. Such is Hollywood!). Many people complain about the casting of Rains and Chaney as father and son. I agree it's totally unrealistic, but I don't think it hurts the movie at all. The lack of Lugosi is a bigger problem. There was more footage of him but unfortunately it wasn't used in the final cut. It's too bad as more scenes between Lugosi and Chaney would have been a treat. Of course they worked together a few times after this, but mostly in lesser movies.

The real scene stealer in 'The Wolf Man' is Maria Ouspenskaya who plays the gypsy woman Maleva. She's just terrific, and gives the most memorable performance after Chaney. 'The Wolf Man' has had an enormous influence on just about every subsequent werewolf movie. Much of the lore seen on screen here isn't in fact traditional, as many people assume, but created by the talented Curt Siodmak ('Donovan's Brain') who subsequently wrote the horror classics 'I Walked With A Zombie'(1943), and 'The Beast With Five Fingers'(1946). 'The Wolf Man' is an undisputed horror classic, and just as entertaining and interesting today as it ever was nearly 70 years ago.

Nice vintage insert for the 1952 re-release for this most highly desirable Horror/Sci-Fi Classic. Great graphics and artwork. Has some wear including pinholes on corners and some missing border chipping. Also has a small piece of tape on right border and some scratch marks in credits area (which could easily be touched up) as shown .

That said a terrific piece, with undeniably Hollywood significance and completely Unrestored ! And, It looks amazing. Imagine how incredible it would look professionally paperbacked with minor touchup?

These are all original 1949 lobby cards above. These are the highly desriable and most popular "artwork" images (I believe these were the only three out of the eight card set with Joe artwork). Rare and a real beauty. In very good condition with only tape stains on borders on one, typical display tack holes on corners and the second one has a tear which extends through card but no pieces missing and repaired nicely making it virtually invisible to the naked eye.

Freaks (MGM, R-1949). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Horror. Starring Wallace Ford, Leila Hyams, Olga Baclanova, Roscoe Ates, Henry Victor and the Hilton twins. Directed by Tod Browning. This 1949 re-issue lobby card has some issues that professional restoration could easily address. There is a 2-3" piece missing mostly from right side border. There are about 3 or 4 vertical creases and some staining and dirt around border areas with light wrinkling toward bottom left. That said the image is in pretty nice condition and this is surely one of the best (most may agree THE BEST) card of the 8 card set.

Would look Amazing after restoration.

These lobby cards are extremely RARE. The One and Three sheet surface from time to time, however, the lobby cards virtually never appear on the market. An original from the 1932 release sell for up to over $10,000.

Steven Spielberg is one of the best American directors working today. He has made many films that have been hailed as classics. Yet before the Dinosaurs, Holocaust, Peter Pan, UFO's, and Indy there was the Shark. Jaws represents one of the masterpieces on Spielberg’s resume. It is also probably the "Quintessential Spielberg Film."

Jaws was very popular when released, it was the highest grossing film of 1975. It spawned three sequels, which were all inferior. In fact, no film about Sharks or any killer fish has been able to come close to the level of Jaws.

The genius in Jaws is its ability to build suspense. The Shark is never really shown till near the end of the film. When ever the Shark is approaching its victims, we get the Sharks point of view, instead of seeing the Shark. These POV shots combined with John Williams very effective score, make the scenes when the Shark is about to devour his victims much more effective.

Evry actor does a nice job with their performances. Roy Scheider brings Martin to life. Martin is not a showy character but Scheider is able to make us like him. Richard Dreyfuss exhibits energy in his performance as Matt Hooper. Robert Shaw is very effective as Quint, that Indianapolis speech is still very chilling to me. Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton also give solid support.

An amazing Sci-Fi movie poster from this 1955 classic. This is the very rare 40x60" version with much different graphics and artwork, than the typical one sheet that appears on the market more frequently. The incorporation of photo graphics of the main stars with the animated artwork of the monster, makes this a most unusual, visually appealing and highly desirable find for the serious collector. We have never acquired this piece before and have only seen it appear on the market once or twice in the past 25 years. And, the other two were in much inferior condition than this one.

The chance we will ever acquire this piece again, particularly in this condition, is highly unlikely. So if you have any interest, sitting on the fence, may result in a painful loss.

Tarantula (Universal International, 1955). Poster (40" X 60"). Science Fiction.
A memorable entry in the giant monster genre so popular in the 1950s, this exciting film stars Leo G. Carroll as a scientist doing research in gigantism. When one of his experimental spiders escapes and grows to enormous size, the entire surrounding population is threatened. Sharp-eyed viewers will recognize a very young Clint Eastwood in the climax of the movie, as the jet squadron leader who attacks the giant spider. Offered here is a wonderful poster for this fan-favorite film, brilliantly presented in dazzling day-glo colors. The poster had pinholes in the corners and in the image area, punch holes in the top corners, a minor corner chip in the bottom right, and small tears in the top and bottom borders. Professional linen backing has expertly addressed all these issues, resulting in a poster that will be the pride of any collection. Excellent + condition on linen.

Freaks, Vintage Movie Poster One Sheet, 1949

A rare (only 2nd we have acquired in 25 years) vintage one sheet from the controversial 1932 Tod Browning classic "Freaks". An amazing 1949 re-release one sheet with terrific artwork and graphics. The poster is in very good-excellent condition. It has wear at the cross folds with about a 2" separation at top and bottom folds. Also slight separation at center cross-folds. Border has a few minor very small less than 1/4" tears. But, of course that would be corrected AND look amazing after professional linen backing. That said the colors are exceptionally bright and vivid, especially since most of the ones we have seen have some fading to colors. An absolute genuine , true piece of Hollywood history and a gem for any collection!

BIO:

Freaks is a 1932 American horror film about sideshow performers, directed and produced by Tod Browning and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, with a cast mostly composed of actual carnival performers. The film was based on Tod Robbins' short story "Spurs". Director Browning took the exceptional step of casting real people with deformities as the eponymous sideshow "freaks," rather than using costumes and makeup.

Browning had been a member of a traveling circus in his early years, and much of the film was drawn from his personal experiences. In the film, the physically deformed "freaks" are inherently trusting and honorable people, while the real monsters are two of the "normal" members of the circus who conspire to murder one of the performers to obtain his large inheritance

Reaction:

Journeyman screenwriter F. Scott Fitzgerald was nursing a hangover in the studio commissary and looked up from his meal to behold the Siamese twin sisters walking in to order lunch. "What shall we have today?" one asked the other. Fitzgerald ran to the bathroom and vomited.

Despite the extensive cuts, the film was still negatively received by audiences, and remained an object of extreme controversy. Today, the parts that were removed from it are considered lost. Browning, famed at the time for his collaborations with Lon Chaney and for directing Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931) had trouble finding work afterward, and this in effect brought his career to an early close. Because its deformed cast was shocking to moviegoers of the time, the film was banned in the United Kingdom for 30 years. Beginning in the early 1960s, Freaks was rediscovered as a counterculture cult film; throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the film was regularly shown at midnight movie screenings at several movie theaters in the United States. In 1994, Freaks was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It was ranked 15th on Bravo TV's list of the 100 Scariest Movie Moments.

Among the characters featured as "freaks" were Peter Robinson ("the human skeleton"); Olga Roderick ("the bearded lady"); Frances O'Connor and Martha Morris ("armless wonders"); and the conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton. Among the microcephalics who appear in the film (and are referred to as "pinheads") were Zip and Pip (Elvira and Jenny Lee Snow) and Schlitzie, a male named Simon Metz who wore a dress mainly due to incontinence, a disputed claim. Also featured were the intersexual Josephine Joseph, with her left/right divided gender; Johnny Eck, the legless man; the completely limbless Prince Randian (also known as The Human Torso, and mis-credited as "Rardion"); Elizabeth Green the Stork Woman; and Koo-Koo the Bird Girl, who suffered from Virchow-Seckel syndrome or bird-headed dwarfism, and is most remembered for the scene where she dances on the table.

Cult reaction:

Owing to its cult status in the late-20th century, Freaks has been referenced explicitly in popular culture expressions from 1970s onward, from songs by other self-proclaimed "freaks", such as the Ramones ("Pinhead" "Gabba, gabba, we accept you, one of us."), Marillion ("Freaks", "Separated Out") and David Bowie ("Diamond Dogs"), to "cult" comic strips like Zippy the Pinhead (a reference to the aforementioned microcephalic), and episodes of many TV series, including South Park, Clerks: The Animated Series, Futurama ("Bendin' in the Wind") and The Big Bang Theory . The chant of "One of us!" is commonly used as a reference to the film. Clips from the movie were included in the entrance video of former World Wrestling Federation faction Oddities.

Offered here is a vintage original 11 x 14 in. U.S. lobby card from KING KONG, produced by RKO in 1933 (with David O. Selznick as Executive Producer) and co-directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. This lobby card is from RKO's 1956 theatrical re-release of the film, which was one of several theatrical re-releases of this extremely popular and iconic horror film. This is one of the most popular of the re-release lobby cards due to the superior artwork, colors and the fantastic border art of Kong climbing up the side of the card. Excellent condition.

Very SCARCE Original ADVANCE One Sheet (27x41")

This is an incredible find! The rare Mylar Advance one sheet for this immortal Sci-Fi classic.　These Advance one sheets have sold for as much as $2300 in high grade condition. Typically however, when they do appear on the market and because of their metallic design, they are often heavily creased to the point they are not very presentable. The beauty is the exception. In excellent to Near Mint condition. Also, the original owner had it exceptionally matted and framed and just Gorgeous! We rarely sell our posters framed but this was done so well, there is no way I will remove it out of the frame. And, if you are considering this as a gift for an extraordinary person, it is ready for spectacular display!

Also, this poster is actually dated 1976, since it was obviously released prior to the 1977 film debut.

Size: framed is about 46x33".

NOTE: This poster is gorgeous. However, because of its metallic material, it is very difficult to photograph. I tried several shots but could not avoid the reflections in the large silver title letters.

Movie audiences had no idea what they were in for in 1977, though this poster attempted to warn them of the impending wonder writer/director George Lucas was about to unleash. Initially, many people in Hollywood, including the film's studio, 20th Century Fox, doubted this picture's ability to succeed. Certain movie theaters didn't even want to show it, prompting Fox to threaten withholding other potential blockbusters from their marquee. In the end, Lucas had the last laugh, and last dollar of just about every moviegoer in that era. The film's stars, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, would go on to star in two critically acclaimed and fan-praised sequels, and the franchise itself has easily become the most successful of all time. Excellent+ to NM condition with the slightest crease in one, maybe two letters of the title (which is not noticeable unless you hold a bright light up to it). This metallic one sheet holds a "most impressive" look.

Gorgeous rare vintage movie poster one sheet from this Boris Karloff detective classic. Excellent condition and has been professionally linen backed.

One of the most requested vintage movie posters over the past several years, AND my personal favorite. In the past 6 years we have acquired three of these and the first two sold almost immediately. Ed Wood's movie poster for his notoriously bad film was gorgeous! The movie poster art is spectacular. That said, Ed Woods movies, believe it or not, have a strong cult following. The Bride of the Monster being his personal “masterpiece” with the immortal horror legend Bela Lugosi. Most of you are probably aware that Ed Woods was depicted by Johnny Depp in the academy award winning 1994 movie “Ed Woods”. Martin Landau won the academy award for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi.

This very scarce, beautiful vintage 1956 one sheet is in excellent + condition with vibrant colors (not faded as we see most of these). Would look great linen backed. UPDATE: It now Professionally linen backed, and absolutely Gorgeous!

Bride of the Monster (Filmmakers Releasing, 1956). One Sheet (27" X 41"). One of director Ed Wood's greatest productions, this was the next to last movie filmed by Bela Lugosi, who played mad scientist Dr. Eric Vornoff. The making of this movie is well-documented in Tim Burton's Ed Wood, including the theft of the rubber octopus from Republic Studios (it was originally created for the John Wayne vehicle, Wake of the Red Witch). Unfortunately, the motor that operated the tentacles was left behind, which is painfully obvious in the final film. Nevertheless, this is classic Ed Wood, and features two of his greatest stars, Lugosi and former Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson (who was the subject of Lugosi's oft-quoted line, "Don't mind Lobo. He's as harmless as a kitchen"). Paper from the majority of Ed Wood's movies is extremely scarce, and highly sought after by those who appreciate the best in "bad" cinema. This particular example shows the typical pinholes in the corners, a small corner chip in the lower left, light edge wear, and light fold wear with some crossfold separation. Notwithstanding these minor flaws, this is a very attractive and very desirable poster that will be the pride of any collection of 1950s cult cinema

Some Trivia:
According to Paul Marco, Edward D. Wood Jr. thought that Bela Lugosi's memory might not be very good so for Lugosi's huge speech in Bride of the Monster, Wood had the prop man make cue cards. Lugosi, upset, insisted he didn't need cue cards and he would "memorize it." Wood still insisted on the cue cards telling Lugosi, "We have to be safe." Bela Lugosi went to Paul Marco for help. He had Marco promise not to show him the cue cards during the scene. Paul Marco held the cards at his side the whole time and Lugosi never looked over once. Bela Lugosi gave a sensational performance and the whole crew got up and applauded

Original 1955 14x22 inch Window Card from "Revenge of the Creature". Great colors and great artwork. Condition is fine. Unlike most window cards the top border has not been trimmed off. It does not even have the typical writing on it. And the colors are particularly vibrant. Has some tape on back and a small hole in the top blank border, and smal minor staining on bottom border. . This is considered, by many collectors, the BEST artwork of all the Creature series movies.

A VERY RARE piece to surface in the marketplace. In the past five years about eight one sheets have been sold at the #1 movie poster auction house, however ONLY ONE Window Card has been recorded selling in 2005.

Original vintage and quite rare Title Card (11x14") for this brilliant Hithcock classic. Excellent condition.

Alfred Hitchcock directed so many brilliant movies that the best known ones like 'Rear Window', 'Vertigo', 'Psycho' and 'The Birds' overshadow equally worthy films like 'Shadow Of A Doubt', 'Lifeboat' - insert your personal favourite here - and this one, 'Rope'. It was the first Hitchcock movie to feature James Stewart and it is easily the most underrated of the four movies they made together. I think Stewart was brave for taking this part, which was much darker than the usual characters associated with him, and it's difficult to imagine him being able to play Scottie in 'Vertigo' without having done this movie first. Stewart is excellent in the movie, but equally good are Farley Grainger (who subsequently starred in Hitchcock's 'Strangers On A Train') and John Dall as the thrill killers. Dall gives the best performance in the movie. I'm surprised that after making this and the Noir cult classic 'Gun Crazy' he isn't better known. The technical "gimmick" of 'Rope' is usually mentioned more than anything else about it (Hitchcock wanted one long continuous take, which wasn't possible at the time, but compromised by using several long ones, a very innovative approach at the time), but there is a lot more to it than just that. Considering the strict censorship of the period it was a daring look at homosexuality. The word is never used at any time in the script but a sophisticated audience would have no doubt what was really going on. I've only seen about a third of n bHitchcock's output but every movie of his I watch or rewatch makes me marvel at him all the more. The greatest and most influential director of suspense movies was also one of the greatest directors of ANY genre ever. 'Rope' deserves to be mentioned in any list of his ten best movies. 55 years after it was originally released it is as fascinating and entertaining as ever. Highly recommended!

Very rare original lobby card (even more scarce then the one sheet). The first "Jaws" lobby cards we have acquired in five years. For whatever reason there are just not many of these in circulation.

Condition:Excellent. . The rest of card is Mint condition. Great scene graphics and border art (which is same art as the one sheet).

Steven Spielberg is one of the best American directors working today. He has made many films that have been hailed as classics. Yet before the Dinosaurs, Holocaust, Peter Pan, UFO\'s, and Indy there was the Shark. Jaws represents one of the masterpieces on Spielberg’s resume. It is also probably the "Quintessential Spielberg Film."

Jaws was very popular when released, it was the highest grossing film of 1975. It spawned three sequels, which were all inferior. In fact, no film about Sharks or any killer fish has been able to come close to the level of Jaws.

The genius in Jaws is its ability to build suspense. The Shark is never really shown till near the end of the film. When ever the Shark is approaching its victims, we get the Sharks point of view, instead of seeing the Shark. These POV shots combined with John Williams very effective score, make the scenes when the Shark is about to devour his victims much more effective.

Every actor does a nice job with their performances. Roy Scheider brings Martin to life. Martin is not a showy character but Scheider is able to make us like him. Richard Dreyfuss exhibits energy in his performance as Matt Hooper. Robert Shaw is very effective as Quint, that Indianapolis speech is still very chilling to me. Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton also give solid support.

Star Wars 1977 Style D one sheet movie poster

Here is the very rare style D one sheet. However, this is the "Studio" issued one sheet. Although Star Wars poster are some of the most "pirated" posters in history, the style D one sheets have no known pirated copies. There were however three issues of this poster. The NSS release which has the GAU logo and NSS on the bottom border, the studio release which does not have the GAU logo and has “ONE-SHET STYLE “D” “ on the bottom right and then there was a reprint in 1992 which is clearly identified in the bottom right (and has no quotes around the “D” like the 1977 studio release and the reprint was rolled NOT machine folded).

Of all these poster releases the “studio” release is by far the most scarce. Rarely does it appear on the market. Reviewing a couple of the most inventory rich dealers with Star Wars posters, we could only find several of the NSS release versions. This “studio” release is one of the first we have seen in a long time. The condition is excellent with only typical fold lines and a small chip out of the right top border, not affecting any of the poster image area.

Also, the 1969 lobby cards are more rare then the earlier releases. We have NEVER seen one before!! An immensely popular film and even more desirable nostalgia treasure. The value of Original material is simply SKYROCKETING. The one sheet sold last month at a major auction for over $45,000! Very rare and difficult to find , this beautiful lobby card features it's main star. Veronica Lake surrounded by police. One of the film’s great dramatic scenes. Actually the FIRST lobby card we have ever acquired from this film.

Excellent condition.

This is a great, compelling crime thriller that stands the test of time quite well. This would be one of the first movies I'd choose to show to a fan of recent movies who wants to explore classic thrillers but doesn't know where to start (along with "The Maltese Falcon" and one or two others). While many period pieces are "appreciated", this one still provides a jolt of adrenaline right from the opening scene, when Alan Ladd rips the maid's dress and slaps her. He's a bad man, no doubt about it, and his portrayal throughout most of the movie is surprisingly dark, even by today's standards. His character, Raven, is a man whose sole act of human compassion is not to murder a crippled orphan in cold blood, and Ladd's performance is underplayed just enough to make him chillingly believable.

This is a relatively early feature in the cycle that would later be called "film noir". A few films had begun to establish the new look and feel for the new generation of gangster movies, but the archetypal noirs were still a couple of years off. This movie is an interesting example of the early style because it visits the typical noir territory (culturally and emotionally) but avoids the stereotypical noir cast of characters. Rather than a flawed, weak man and a femme fatale, "This Gun For Hire" gives us a coldly amoral killer as the male lead and a tough, streetwise woman as the main "good guy" (her cop boyfriend spends most of the film running around frantically and accomplishing nothing).

Visually, this film is pure noir. It's directed by Frank Tuttle, who made the first version of "The Glass Key" in 1935, combining a hard-boiled gangster story and expressionist-influenced lighting. "This Gun For Hire" fits firmly into that mode, and shows that many of the stylistic trademarks of the supposedly "post-war" Noir style were firmly in place before the US had even been in WW2 for a full year. More importantly, it provides thrills, and a great dose of "the good stuff" in a neat, 81-minute-long package.

A Very Rare Title Card to surface on the market. The first we have acquired in 20 years. For whatever reason there just are not many posters that survived from this Hitchcock classic. This fine specimen is in excellent condition.

Lifeboat was Alfred Hitchcock's only film for 20th Century Fox. It is not widely remembered nowadays - certainly not in the way that Psycho, North By Northwest and Rebecca are remembered - but it still ranks very highly in the director's canon. In the film Hitchcock demonstrates a fascination with restricting the action to a single set. He would return later in his career to the concept of single set stories, for movies such as Rope, Dial M For Murder and Rear Window. It is an approach that would bring most directors to their knees, but Hitch rises to the challenge admirably, finding ingenious ways to maintain audience interest and providing a ceaseless undercurrent of excitement.

A passenger ship torpedoed by a German U-Boat sinks in the Atlantic Ocean. Well-groomed society lady Constance Porter (Tallulah Bankhead, in an absolutely outstanding performance) successfully mans one of the sunken ship's lifeboats and steers it around the debris in search of survivors. She picks up various types from the sea, including injured sailor Gus Smith (William Bendix), crewman John Kovac (John Hodiak) and the German U-Boat captain (Walter Slezak) whose own submarine was critically damaged in the attack. The dynamic of the group is severely strained by the German's presence, as the other survivors contemplate and argue over whether to toss him to the sharks, or put their trust in him to steer their lifeboat to safety.

Slezak is very good as the tricky German, deviously keeping a stash of water to himself while the others struggle against chronic thirst, and at one point murdering a fellow survivor to keep his water supply a secret. Hitchcock and his script-writer Jo Swerling wisely let us in on the German's true nature, while the characters surrounding him are unaware of his treachery. This keeps tension on a knife-edge throughout the film, and holds the viewer in suspense for the whole story. Similarly, Bankhead's casting is so unorthodox, her character so intentionally ill-fitting to the oceanic setting, that her role in the proceedings casts a strange fascination. The film has a lot of political and propagandist subtext, and many people have viewed it as an allegory of the Nazi rise in Europe (Slezak is the metaphor for Nazi Germany; the others metaphors for surrounding nations duped into believing that the Nazi neighbour in their midst is helpful and trustworthy). Whatever else Lifeboat can and can't be interpreted as, one thing is certain - it's a mighty fine movie!

This has been our favorite A&C Meet Frankenstein lobby card of all time, and for the first time in 20 years we have acquired it. A real beauty and fantasic scene with Lon Chaney as the Wolfman sizing up his prey Lou Costello.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (Universal International, 1948). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Although Lou Costello found the script insulting and Universal execs had to be shamed into using Lugosi for Dracula (they wanted Ian Keith, for some strange reason), what finally emerged is one of the best horror comedies ever filmed, and certainly one of the greatest in the Abbott & Costello series. Bud and Lou meet Dracula, the Wolfman, and the Frankenstein creature in this raucous monster mash directed by Charles Barton, who helmed all of the best A&C movies. There are no bad cards in the A&CmF lobby set, but this is certainly one of our very favorites, as Lou narrowly escapes the razor-sharp talons of the Wolfman. The card has pinholes, edge wear, a slice in the top right section, some edge tear in the bottom border. Presents beautifully with good color and a great image of Lou and Wolfie. Very Fine condition

Maybe in the top five of the most important Sci-Fi movies of all time, “War of the Worlds” is unquestionably an icon in the Sci-Fi movie category. This Window card is not only stunning in its artwork and design but a true piece of Hollywood history. The first we have ever acquired.

The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Window Card (14" X 18.25").
With the iconic artwork of the alien hand reaching down from the heavens, this window card is one of the prize items for serious sci-fi fans. H.G. Wells' brilliant 1898 novel is the basis for this excellent film directed by Byron Haskin and featuring the fantastic, Academy Award winning special effects of George Pal. Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, and Les Tremayne co-star, with Cedric Hardwicke providing the voice over commentary. The card has been trimmed by 3.75" in the top blank imprint area (as have most window cards), pinholes in the borders, and a horizontal crease. That said, a stunning and historical piece of Hollywood history!

Back is stamped Pentagram Pictures and July 16. Also has pencil marking for size. On front of still along bottom edge was typewritten (with typewriter) "a scene

Lon Chaney Sr. Still from Bits of Life. A dramatic 11x14 photo of Lon Chaney as "Chin Chow" and Anna May Wong as "Chin Chow's wife" in the 1921 film Bits of Life. The film, of which no copy is currently known to exist, was directed by Marshall Neilan. The still has a small chip out of the lower left corner and some border wear, and has the still photographer's name in white at the lower left corner. The back of the picture has a Motion Play stamp with a penciled-in date of Oct. 30, 1921 and names of the players, film, director and studio (First National) added in pen and pencil. Overall Excellent condition. A great piece of Chaney material and a fine example of "The Man of a Thousand Faces" in his masterful makeup, pre-The Hunchback of Notre Dame or The Phantom of the Opera.

NOT JUST RARE, BUT you'll NEVER SEE ANOTHER. The closest you will come to seeing a scene from the actual lost movie which NO LONGER EXISTS.

After checking all the Black Lagoon window cards that have sold in the last 5 years , this may be the BEST condition of any. All the other sold by a major auction house had restoration, some extensive including replacing borders, replacing top blank area (about 6"), substantial repainting, etc. This one is Unrestored and only has a horizontal fold as they all did. Not even the top balnk area was written in or trimmed off as most windows cards. The artwork is as beautiful as the amazing condition. A high quality find, you're not likely to see again anytime soon.

"Invaders from Mars" - This 1953 film's director, William Cameron Menzies, was no stranger to the science fiction genre, having long before directed the visionary H. G. Wells adaptation, Things to Come (1936), and before that the 1924 Doug Fairbanks fantasy classic, The Thief of Baghdad. Invaders from Mars would be one of the final two films that the respected director would finish, and his unique vision permeates this one as much as any other. German Expressionist settings and touches flows through the film's major scenes, and the main message of the film is unusual for the age of McCarthyism: conformity is not necessarily a good thing?sometimes it can be fatal. While haunted by the technical faults that plague low-budget films, Invaders from Mars stands up as a quality effort. This 27" x 41" one-sheet poster is from the 1955 re-release for Menzies' film. It glowingly displays as a Mint gem, linen-backed for preservation and presentation (sealing a few small and inconspicuous edge tears), with only the most minute of color touches in a few fold lines and a neat 1/2" professional repair to an edge tear. Original movie one-sheet poster from the 1965 reissue of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, "PSYCHO". This is an original poster not a reproduction. A groundbreaking classic of the horror thriller film genre starring Janet Leigh, Martin Balsam, and of course, Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates.

This poster is in Excellent condition. The colors are bright and the paper white.

Same graphics as the 1960 release with the exception of Hitchcock's creepy and favorite phrase "IT'S BACK" always used as a subtle dare for the audience to return and see it!

SPECTACULAR Original Vintage Linen Backed One Sheet (27x41")

1953 - A very rare and highly desirable one sheet movie poster. The artwork for this vintage sci-fi is terrific. Although the movie reviews were quite bad it surprisingly has a strong following. Rarely does the original one sheet surface in the marketplace for this title. I am also not sure if these women really do live on the moon since Neil Armstrong did not encounter them during his 1969 trip there.

This beauty has been professionally linen backed.

Cat Women of the Moon tells the tale of a group of American space travelers who confront a hostile tribe of females on the border between the light and dark side of the moon. The expedition is led by Laird Grainger (

Sonny Tufts), whose polyglot crew--including co-pilot Kip Reissner (Victor Jory) and navigator Helen Salinger (Marie Windsor)--land on the lunar surface, where they soon discover that there's an atmosphere and water and everything.

EXCEPTIONALLY RARE Original hand litho Australian 3 sheet approx 40" x 80", printed in 3 sections, folded as issued, fine condition. Australian three sheets were generally printed in 3 sections but occasionally had as many as 5 or even 6 panels. I have photographed each section to give a good indication of the condition of the poster. They were printed in extremely small quantities and sold to the cinemas for display. These posters would generally be taped or glued together and few have survived. This was recently acquired from one of Australia's most famous long time collectors. He worked in the industry for many years and tried to keep something from every film that was released. This poster is exceedingly rare and in many cases it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to find another.? The ONLY one we have ever seen in 20+ years of collecting!

In addition, the stunningly, beautiful artwork surpasses that of it's American counterpart, also issues in 1966. It is also FAR MORE RARE. EXCELLENT Condition!

The Return of the Vampire (Columbia, 1943). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). One of only three films in which Bela Lugosi plays a "true" vampire, this thriller from Columbia features Lugosi as a buried and staked vampire whose eternal sleep is interrupted by the Germans bombing England in WWII. He comes out of the grave with revenge for his stakers in his heart.

This lobby card has only three pinholes in the border and field, light smudges on the yellow background and border, and a nicely placed censor stamp "Suitable for For Adults Only" on the lower border. Lugosi at his best, in a seductive vampire pose. Of course the BEST card of the set and one of the best Lugosi lobby card scenes ever. Fine/Very Fine

Awesome image from legendary Universal Horror film, "THE RAVEN", starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.

This is lobby card #1, the title card, from the 1948 Realart Re-release. Tiny embossed F.N.S.S. symbol bottom right at rubberstamp. The streaks in the border and below Karloff's ear appear to be gold paint, who knows why. Corners a bit dingy. Card feels sturdy, looks stunning.

This original Title Card shows some wear, but mostly on the back side, which no one sees anyway. Brown paper tape along 2 sides and in 2 places at center, this is on the back. Brown tape is stable and archival, and because of the tape, there are no rips to report. Four pinholes to left of Lugosi's head, and one below his hand.

The vintage horror artwork and graphics are simply stunning!!

The image depicts an exaggerated image of King Kong towering over the New York skyline as he clutches Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) in his hand. The large border artwork on the right features a close shot of Kong which appears on one of the two original 3-sheet posters from the film's 1933 release. RKO issued a duotone set of lobby cards for the 1952 theatrical re-release with a blue/green tint. As stated in the lower right corner, this card is number 8 from a set of 8 cards.

Measuring 11 x 14 in., this lobby card is in excellent condition with a staple hole and signs of wear at each corner (there are 2 staple holes at the bottom right corner), 3 staple holes in the lower portion of the left outer white border, a horizontal crease running the entire length of the card along the bottom edge of the image (as if a previous owner had done this to either fit the card in a frame or mask out the credits in the lower outer white border) and light surface wrinkling. This rare original theatrical lobby card presents itself very well despite these minor flaws. Original material from KING KONG ranks among the most sought after of all of the classic 1930s horror films.

Starring the Munsters

Original theatrical US one-sheet (27" x 41") from the 1966 Universal release of Munster, Go Home, the first feature film based on the popular TV comedy series "The Munsters". Wonderful artwork depicting Herman (Fred Gwynne), Lily (Yvonne DeCarlo), Grandpa (Al Lewis), Eddie (Butch Patrick) and Marilyn (Debbie Watson, who replaced Pat Priest from the TV series). Artwork also shows the famous Munster car, the Drag-u-la.

Very good C6+/C7- condition. Originally folded, with minor toning on vertical folds. Pinholes in corners. The main flaws are two medium-size tears on the left side edge (see detail pics). The top tear to the left of Herman's head is a curving tear with some crinkling that has been repaired from the reverse with white tape, but is still crooked. The lower tear is a split right along the center left border edge that has not been repaired. Neither tear extends far into the image area where the characters are, and both could easily be repaired properly from behind with linen tape to keep the front of the poster looking great. Despite these flaws, the poster has fantastic eye-appeal. And linen backing would eliminate all these flaws as no pieces are missing. The colors and text of the poster are still bright and vibrant. A rare poster for any Munster or Universal monster fan at a super-low starting price! -- Ships rolled in a thick tube.
