1942 BABE RUTH Personal MGM Check Pay Stub

The BABE gets PAID .... PRIDE of the YANKEES !

Offered is one INCREDIBLE relic in relation to one of the greatest names in the national game and his appearance in arguably the greatest of all sports films produced. This is Babe Ruth's ACTUAL pay check stub from MGM, the studio that produced the 1942 classic, "Pride of The Yankees". Ruth would portray himself in the film based on the life of his New York Yankees teammate, Lou Gehrig starring Gary Cooper. The pay stub from Samuel Goldwyn, Ltd. (the iconic film producer and the "G" in MGM) measures 1-1/2" x 8-3/4". It is stamp dated APR 4 '42 and was made out to GEORGE HERMAN RUTH. Gross earnings were $1,500.00, and after Uncle Sam's take, Babe took home $1,462.50 for his work.

The pay check stub was perfectly detached along the perforations by Ruth when he cashed the check (thank you Babe) and then neatly folded in four, presumably placed in his wallet. It presents in outstanding excellent to mint in condition. Along with the pay check stub is the perfect companion piece, an important 1942 Original Photograph issued by the Metropolitan Photo Service measuring 8" x 10". The vintage 1st generation, TYPE I photograph depicting Ruth and Goldwyn shaking hands was taken the exact day the deal to bring Ruth to the silver screen was consummated. The reverse has the original press stamp and stamp date as well as a newspaper clipping that used this actual photo in newspapers reporting the good news at the time. The two items have been gorgeously double- matted and professionally framed to dimensions measuring 13" x 15" (rest assured that the items are NOT attached by adhesives but are in archival sleeves in which the items can be slipped in and out with ease. This was a first-rate, museum quality frame job).

While Babe Ruth appeared in several short and feature length films in his career (most considered mediocre at best), they pale in comparison to "Pride of the Yankees", a film of such stature and historical importance. And when you take a personal artifact from such a film featuring an icon of Ruth's stature and his importance in the context of his genre, you have the perfect storm. A Ruthian display piece that will draw considerable demand from both fronts: the baseball and the movie crowd !
