Rare Civil War Period Antique CDV Photo

Very Rare Famous CDV photo of  Abraham & Todd Lincoln from Matthew Brady's negative, issued during Lincoln's assassination mourning period.   Terrific detail.

Size: 2.75”x3.75”
* See enlargeable images above and below

1865 CDV - a mourning Carte de Visite of Abraham Lincoln looking at an album of photos with his son Tad. The photo was originally taken by Mathew Brady at his Washington DC studio on Feb. 9, 1864.

There is a black mourning border around the sides of the mount, indicating that this was issued as a mourning item after Lincoln's assassination.

Affixed to the back is a paper label from the publisher of this CDV, which states that the photo shows Lincoln reading the Bible to his son (it was actually a photo album in the Brady studio). The label also advertises a photo of Boston Corbett, 'The Avenger of President Lincoln" (he killed John Wilkes Booth).

The label reads: "PRESIDENT LINCOLN Reading the Bible to his Son Tad. W. I. POOLEY, Publisher and Book Jobber, 331 PEARL STREET, Harpers' Building - Franklin Square, NEW-YORK. Price 25 Cents. ALSO BOSTON CORBET, THE AVENGER OF PRESIDENT LINCOLN. PRICE 25 CENTS."

Scarce. Very Fine.
