Leonard Paulding - (1826-1867) entered the Navy as Midshipman (1840), rose to rank of Lieutenant-Commander by 1862, commanded the 'Galena' through the war and died aboard the 'Wateree'. ALS, June 6th, 1863 to Paymaster T. Henry Sellman, as a letter of praise and recommendation for Sellman's duties performed aboard the 'Galena'. one page, 2 folds, excellent condition war-date letter
