Wood used the Lugosi footage as a means of attracting actors to the picture, gaining the interest of Gregory Walcott and Maila Nurmi, among others, by telling them he was making "Bela Lugosi's last movie." Though Wood's actions were driven in part by the desire to give his film a "star name" and attract horror fans, he meant the Lugosi cameo as a loving farewell and tribute to the actor, who had become a close friend. Wood hired his wife's chiropractor Tom Mason as a stand-in for Lugosi, although Mason was taller than Lugosi and bore no resemblance to him, making him one of the earliest "fake Shemps". Narration from Criswell was also employed in an attempt to better link Lugosi's footage with the rest of Plan 9.
The theatrical cut of the film utilized every last scrap of material Wood had of Lugosi, including minor sprocket discolorations, film trims that would in a normal film be discarded as unusable.
Cuts of the film on VHS during the '80s and '90s, the vast majority of which were unauthorized bootleg dupes, varied drastically in quality and the amount of Lugosi material retained.

Coincidentally, further Lugosi footage Wood had shot at an unspecified pre-1956 date was to have been the basis of a second posthumous movie for the horror legend, Ghouls of the Moon, but the footage had been shot on volatile acetate stock and dissolved into toxic-smelling sludge by the time Wood's thoughts turned to the new venture in the summer of 1959. Ghouls of the Moon was abandoned entirely as a result. Mystery surrounds the content and nature of the lost material, described only as 'wild' by a friend of Wood's who had seen the raw footage shortly after it was shot..

Note: Cvtreasures stamp Not on original

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0882/6781/7239/files/plan-9-from-outer-space-original-vintage-horror-movie-theater-poster-lobby-card-ed-woods-bela-lugosi-5-677063.jpg?v=1742499564
dracula-vintage-horror-lobby-card-movie-poster-bela-lugosi
Dracula Vintage Horror Lobby Card Movie Poster Bela Lugosi

Original vintage Horror Sci Fi movie theater posters classic Film memorabilia collectibles for sale
Dracula, 1931
Original Vintage Horror Lobby Card Movie Poster
Starring Bela Lugosi

Let's just get to the point! This is arguably one of the BEST Dracula lobby cards in existence.

Not even any of the 1931 lobby cards (which typically sell for $10,000+ Each when they rarely do surface on the market) , compares to this incredible image of the Count moving in on his sleeping prey (Hellen Chandler) in the very first Dracula re-release from 1938. .And if that''s not enough, look at the striking and menacing border image of Lugosi in the lower right... Simply astonishing to say the least. And one of the best Dracula lobby cards we have ever seen surface.

There is probably no more dramatic and spine chilling classic horror image then Dracula (Bela Lugosi) moving in on his sleeping prey like this breathtaking close-up. Imagine how crowds reacted back in 1931, the beginning of talkie movies and decades before the public would be desensitized with grotesque morbidity like graphic violence and special effects.

Excellent condition with minor restoration to the borders.

* See enlargeable images above and below

Note: Just to give you an idea of the immense popularity and skyrocketing value of a top tier horror masterpiece like "Dracula", a 1931 "Dracula" Title Card sold at auction in July 2019 for $114,000 and a regular scene lobby card sold for $102,000. A "Dracula" one sheet sold at auction in November 2017 for $525,800. Making this fantastic 1938 CHOICE lobby card a remarkable opportunity and investment!

Dracula (Universal, R-1938). The film was based on Tod Robbins' short story "Spurs". Director Browning took the exceptional step of casting real people with deformities as the eponymous sideshow "freaks," rather than using costumes and makeup.

Browning had been a member of a traveling circus in his early years, and much of the film was drawn from his personal experiences. Today, the parts that were removed from it are considered lost. Browning, famed at the time for his collaborations with Lon Chaney and for directing Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931) had trouble finding work afterward, and this in effect brought his career to an early close. Because its deformed cast was shocking to moviegoers of the time, the film was banned in the United Kingdom for 30 years. Beginning in the early 1960s, Freaks was rediscovered as a counterculture cult film; throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the film was regularly shown at midnight movie screenings at several movie theaters in the United States. In 1994, Freaks was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It was ranked 15th on Bravo TV's list of the 100 Scariest Movie Moments.

Among the characters featured as "freaks" were Peter Robinson ("the human skeleton"); Olga Roderick ("the bearded lady"); Frances O'Connor and Martha Morris ("armless wonders"); and the conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton. Among the microcephalics who appear in the film (and are referred to as "pinheads") were Zip and Pip (Elvira and Jenny Lee Snow) and Schlitzie, a male named Simon Metz who wore a dress mainly due to incontinence, a disputed claim.
