After the success of the original The Mummy in 1932, and highly profitable runs of other sequels to horror features, Universal embarked on a new Mummy series in 1940 with Tom Tyler taking over the role Boris Karloff made famous. The Mummy's Hand followed, of which a copy of the one sheet is offered in this auction. In 1942, Tyler was out as Universal wanted to promote their new horror star, Lon Chaney Jr., and cast him as the Mummy Kharis in the final three films. In this sequel, the Mummy is in Massachusetts being revived through the use of tanna leaves. John Carradine, as the evil Yousef Bey, is sent on a mission to retrieve Kharis and the Princess Ananka and return them to Egypt. Bey soon discovers that Ananka, whose mummified body is on display in a museum, has been reincarnated and Bey now wants to kidnap the reincarnated princess for his own desires. Bela Lugosi plays a scientist trying to create a race of giant-sized atomic supermen, with Tor Johnson on hand as his grunting assistant and Janet Lawson as a meddling reporter who eventually becomes the titular \"bride.\" This nifty one sheet features amusingly lurid artwork of Lugosi clutching the distressed damsel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOther than a few brief scenes in Plan 9 From Outer Space, this would be Bela Lugosi's full final film. As the evil scientist Dr. Vornoff, Lugosi set about creating a master race of men using atomic energy. It was directed by Ed Wood, known for making some of the worst films in the history of cinema, but in this outing, he did the best he could on a minimal budget, even having Lugosi fight a giant octopus in a swamp. The movie poster art is spectacular.    That said, Ed Woods movies, believe it or not, have a strong cult following. The Bride of the Monster being his personal “masterpiece” with the immortal horror legend Bela Lugosi.   Most of you are probably aware that Ed Woods was depicted by Johnny Depp in the academy award winning 1994 movie “Ed Woods”. Martin Landau won the academy award for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi.  \u003cbr\u003eSeasoned collectors know original posters for this title are often faded to some extent..  This very scarce, beautiful vintage 1956 one sheet is in excellent  condition with vibrant colors (not faded as we see most of these).  Professionally linen backed, and absolutely Gorgeous!\u003cbr\u003eBride of the Monster (Filmmakers Releasing, 1956). One Sheet (27\" X 41\").\u003cbr\u003eOne of director Ed Wood's greatest productions, this was the next to last movie filmed by Bela Lugosi, who played mad scientist Dr. Eric Vornoff. The making of this movie is well-documented in Tim Burton's Ed Wood, including the theft of the rubber octopus from Republic Studios (it was originally created for the John Wayne vehicle, Wake of the Red Witch). Unfortunately, the motor that operated the tentacles was left behind, which is painfully obvious in the final film. Nevertheless, this is classic Ed Wood, and features two of his greatest stars, Lugosi and former Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson (who was the subject of Lugosi's oft-quoted line, \"Don't mind Lobo. He's as harmless as a kitchen\").\u003cbr\u003eNevertheless, this is Ed Wood, master of the bizarre and unusual, at his finest. Original paper from Ed Wood pictures are rare and continue to be highly sought after with this example having benefited from restoration.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePaper from the majority of Ed Wood's movies is extremely scarce, and highly sought after by those who appreciate the best in \"bad\" cinema. Prior to restoration the poster had fold wear and a few interior tears. The borders and  corners have been skillfully airbrushed.. Notwithstanding these minor flaws, this is a very attractive and very desirable poster that will be the pride of any collection of 1950s cult cinema\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome Trivia:\u003cbr\u003eAccording to Paul Marco, Edward D. Wood Jr. thought that Bela Lugosi's memory might not be very good so for Lugosi's huge speech in Bride of the Monster, Wood had the prop man make cue cards. Lugosi, upset, insisted he didn't need cue cards and he would \"memorize it.\" Wood still insisted on the cue cards telling Lugosi, \"We have to be safe.\" Bela Lugosi went to Paul Marco for help. He had Marco promise not to show him the cue cards during the scene. Paul Marco held the cards at his side the whole time and Lugosi never looked over once. The movie poster art is spectacular.    That said, Ed Woods movies, believe it or not, have a strong cult following. The Bride of the Monster being his personal “masterpiece” with the immortal horror legend Bela Lugosi.   Most of you are probably aware that Ed Woods was depicted by Johnny Depp in the academy award winning 1994 movie “Ed Woods”. Under the incredibly inept direction of Edward D. Wood, Lugosi plots to create a race of \"supermen\" by harnessing the power of the atom. The film also starred Tor Johnson, another alumni of Woods' low-budget horror films. Posters on this title, as with all of Wood's productions, are Rare and quite collectible. The poster shows edge wear, a tear on the right border backed by paper tape on the verso, faint corner bends.   Rolled, Never folded, so none of the typical vertical \u0026amp;amp; horizonal creases.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne of director Ed Wood's greatest productions, this was the next to last movie filmed by Bela Lugosi, who played mad scientist Dr. Eric Vornoff. The making of this movie is well-documented in Tim Burton's Ed Wood, including the theft of the rubber octopus from Republic Studios (it was originally created for the John Wayne vehicle, Wake of the Red Witch). Unfortunately, the motor that operated the tentacles was left behind, which is painfully obvious in the final film. Nevertheless, this is classic Ed Wood, and features two of his greatest stars, Lugosi and former Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson (who was the subject of Lugosi's oft-quoted line, \"Don't mind Lobo. He's as harmless as a kitchen\").\u003cbr\u003eNevertheless, this is Ed Wood, master of the bizarre and unusual, at his finest. Lugosi, upset, insisted he didn't need cue cards and he would \"memorize it.\" Wood still insisted on the cue cards telling Lugosi, \"We have to be safe.\" Bela Lugosi went to Paul Marco for help. He had Marco promise not to show him the cue cards during the scene. Paul Marco held the cards at his side the whole time and Lugosi never looked over once. Thus they needed a new horror star and Lon Chaney Jr. had proven himself up to the task. This film would become a big hit for the studio and revived the horror cycle for another ten years. Starring not only Chaney but Claude Rains, Bela Lugosi and Warren William, the film is a masterwork of eerie cinematography and a wonderful musical score.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlthough Universal was unsure about the American public's desire for horror movies following the attack on Pearl Harbor,  The Wolf Man  became a top grossing film for the studio in 1942. Nevertheless, he managed to put together an impressive filmography of pictures that are still being enjoyed to this day, while many of his more \"talented\" contemporaries have faded into true obscurity. Offered here is perhaps the pinnacle of Ed Wood collectibles, a glorious lobby card for his best-known, and most fondly-remembered, production starring Bela Lugosi, Vampira, Tor Johnson, Lyle Talbot, and Dudley Manlo\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"It's so bad it's good\" is a phrase commonly used to describe Ed Wood's cult classic science fiction opus. In fact, it's considered the worst movie ever made and that status has made it a genuine classic. \u003cstrong\u003ePlan 9 also has the distinction of being the last movie Bela Lugosi ever made. Original material on this film is highly collectible.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(255, 128, 0);\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBela Lugosi's last film\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBela Lugosi, in silent footage for the abandoned The Vampire's Tomb, which was later recycled for Plan 9 from Outer Space.  Shortly before Lugosi's death in August 1956, he had been working with Wood on numerous half-realized projects, variously titled The Vampire's  Tomb or The Ghoul Goes West. Scenes unconnected to Plan 9, featuring Lugosi weeping at a funeral, walking in front of Tor Johnson's house at    daytime, walking in and out of the Johnson home's side door at nighttime and a daylight scene on a patch of highway showing Lugosi stalking  towards the camera and dramatically spreading his Dracula cape before furling it around himself and walking back the way he came,  had  been  shot.    According to the documentary Flying Saucers : The 'Plan 9' Companion, these shots were improvised. Only the first two sequences had reached any    level of completion. When Lugosi died, Wood shelved these projects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShortly after Lugosi's death the story and screenplay for Grave Robbers from Outer Space were written and finalized, with Wood planning to use  the unconnected, unrelated footage of Lugosi as a means of putting a credit for him on the picture. Wood used the Lugosi footage as a means of  attracting actors to the picture, gaining the interest of Gregory Walcott and Maila Nurmi, among others, by telling them he was making  \"Bela Lugosi's last movie.\" Though Wood's actions were driven in part by the desire to give his film a \"star name\" and attract horror fans,  he meant the Lugosi cameo as a loving farewell and tribute to the actor, who had become a close friend. Wood hired his wife's chiropractor  Tom Mason as a stand-in for Lugosi, although Mason was taller than Lugosi and bore no resemblance to him, making him one of the earliest    \"fake Shemps\". Narration from Criswell was also employed in an attempt to better link Lugosi's footage with the rest of Plan 9.  \u003cbr\u003eThe theatrical cut of the film utilized every last scrap of material Wood had of Lugosi, including minor sprocket discolorations, film trims    that would in a normal film be discarded as unusable. Cuts of the film on VHS during the '80s and '90s, the vast majority of which were  unauthorized bootleg dupes, varied drastically in quality and the amount of Lugosi material retained.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCoincidentally, further Lugosi footage Wood had shot at an unspecified pre-1956 date was to have been the basis of a second posthumous movie  for the horror legend, Ghouls of the Moon, but the footage had been shot on volatile acetate stock and dissolved into toxic-smelling sludge by  the time Wood's thoughts turned to the new venture in the summer of 1959. Ghouls of the Moon was abandoned entirely as a result. Scenes unconnected to Plan 9, featuring Lugosi weeping at a funeral, walking in front of Tor Johnson's house at    daytime, walking in and out of the Johnson home's side door at nighttime and a daylight scene on a patch of highway showing Lugosi stalking  towards the camera and dramatically spreading his Dracula cape before furling it around himself and walking back the way he came,  had  been  shot.    According to the documentary Flying Saucers : The 'Plan 9' Companion, these shots were improvised. Only the first two sequences had reached any    level of completion. Wood hired his wife's chiropractor  Tom Mason as a stand-in for Lugosi, although Mason was taller than Lugosi and bore no resemblance to him, making him one of the earliest    \"fake Shemps\". In fact, it's considered the worst movie ever made and that status has made it a genuine classic. \u003cstrong\u003ePlan 9 also has the distinction of being the last movie Bela Lugosi ever made. Original material on this film is highly collectible.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(255, 128, 0);\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBela Lugosi's last film\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBela Lugosi, in silent footage for the abandoned The Vampire's Tomb, which was later recycled for Plan 9 from Outer Space.  Shortly before Lugosi's death in August 1956, he had been working with Wood on numerous half-realized projects, variously titled The Vampire's  Tomb or The Ghoul Goes West. Scenes unconnected to Plan 9, featuring Lugosi weeping at a funeral, walking in front of Tor Johnson's house at    daytime, walking in and out of the Johnson home's side door at nighttime and a daylight scene on a patch of highway showing Lugosi stalking  towards the camera and dramatically spreading his Dracula cape before furling it around himself and walking back the way he came,  had  been  shot.    According to the documentary Flying Saucers : The 'Plan 9' Companion, these shots were improvised. Only the first two sequences had reached any    level of completion. When Lugosi died, Wood shelved these projects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShortly after Lugosi's death the story and screenplay for Grave Robbers from Outer Space were written and finalized, with Wood planning to use  the unconnected, unrelated footage of Lugosi as a means of putting a credit for him on the picture. Wood used the Lugosi footage as a means of  attracting actors to the picture, gaining the interest of Gregory Walcott and Maila Nurmi, among others, by telling them he was making  \"Bela Lugosi's last movie.\" Though Wood's actions were driven in part by the desire to give his film a \"star name\" and attract horror fans,  he meant the Lugosi cameo as a loving farewell and tribute to the actor, who had become a close friend. Wood hired his wife's chiropractor  Tom Mason as a stand-in for Lugosi, although Mason was taller than Lugosi and bore no resemblance to him, making him one of the earliest    \"fake Shemps\". Narration from Criswell was also employed in an attempt to better link Lugosi's footage with the rest of Plan 9.  \u003cbr\u003eThe theatrical cut of the film utilized every last scrap of material Wood had of Lugosi, including minor sprocket discolorations, film trims    that would in a normal film be discarded as unusable. Cuts of the film on VHS during the '80s and '90s, the vast majority of which were  unauthorized bootleg dupes, varied drastically in quality and the amount of Lugosi material retained.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCoincidentally, further Lugosi footage Wood had shot at an unspecified pre-1956 date was to have been the basis of a second posthumous movie  for the horror legend, Ghouls of the Moon, but the footage had been shot on volatile acetate stock and dissolved into toxic-smelling sludge by  the time Wood's thoughts turned to the new venture in the summer of 1959.
