Geronimo
RARE ORIGINAL Vintage Cabinet Photo circa 1900
Photographer William Irwin

A spectacular piece of extraordinary American History!   Rare Original cabinet photo of legendary Apache Warrior GERONIMO by renown 19th century photographer William Irwin...  A first for us as we ave never seen or owned this amazing photo in our 35 years collecting historical memorabilia.

The only oe we could find was one for sale online for about $3000!     Compared to a handful of others that have appeared on the market over the past 20 years this photo has survived the past 115 years in surprisingly excellent condition with great contrast and detail, note the details of his face.  Most others have substantially faded losing much of that highly desirable detail...      A great find for the exclusive history and/or western collector!     (imagine this in the Christmas stocking?  WOW!)

Unsigned 5.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of Geronimo by William Irwin, showing the legendary warrior in a fringed leather shirt while holding a revolver. Period pencil notations on the reverse read, “Geronimo. The notorious Apache Chief now a Prisoner of War at Ft. Sill.” Also bears a pencil identification notation at the top of the mount. In very good condition, with soiling and chipping to the mount, a trimmed bottom edge, chip to the upper left corner of the photo, and some stray ink marks at the bottom; the majority of flaws are confined to the mount, leaving the wonderful image largely unaffected.

Geronimo (Mescalero-Chiricahua: Goyaa?é [kòjà????] "the one who yawns"; June 1829 – February 17, 1909) was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache who fought against Mexico and Arizona for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. "Geronimo" was the name given to him during a battle with Mexican soldiers. Geronimo's Chiricahua name is often rendered in English as Goyathlay or Goyahkla.

After a Mexican attack on his tribe, where soldiers killed his mother, wife, and his three children in 1858, Geronimo joined a number of revenge attacks against the Mexicans.

In 1886, after a lengthy pursuit, Geronimo surrendered to Arizona faux-gubernatorial authorities as a prisoner of war.
