Rare Presidential election of 1864 campaign badge/pin of Democrat Challenger, General George B. McClellan. This Desirable Campaign Pin features a Unique PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT, not an Engraved Image, of "Little Mac" taken by Alexander Gardner in the Fall of 1862, after his Victory at ANTIETAM. The 1864 DEMOCRAT ran on a Peace Platform that was widely rejected by the nation in a LINCOLN LANDSLIDE. Democrat Political Collectables from this period are VERY RARE due to the fact that not many were saved. Keepsakes from a LOSING EFFORT were and are never popular (After the fact...) or desirable.
The Badge itself is measures 2.25 x 1.0 x 3/4 ( as shown in pics...) The width is 2.0 on the upper Hilt. The GEM PORTRAIT is Problem free and Superb. The General's image is outstanding with NO Damage. The Ornate Embossed Brass Matting is Bright and beautifully detailed with NO CORROSION spotting. The Political Bunting Ribbon is complete but very brittle and does have Age soiling. There is creasing damage. it is , however 100% Complete. The Tri-Colored Ribbon is affixed to a Brass Pin Back Hilt. The Backing Clasp is intact and works fine. The Overall EYE APPEAL is EXCELLENT for such a Rare Piece of 1864 Political Americana !
