Never Before Seen Photo!
 

Exceptionally nice authentically RARE signed photo of this Horror Legend.   A very early 1920s/30s original 5x7" studio photo and one we have never seen before and one we could not find after an extensive online search.  Beautiful vintage bold fountain pen signature.  Was in vintage frame for several decades, however we removed it.    And glad we did as on the back is important provenance.   The recipient wrote in very vintage fountain pen, "Please sign on opposite side of card A. Vines".    But, it appears the Mr Karloff was an acquaintance of the recipient as Mr Karloff inscribed to an "Alfred Vines with best wished, Boris Karloff".   How else would Mr Karloff know his full name?..   Also, note in the upper right corner is written in pencil, "1929".   Along with this early date and the London based postcard, it appears to have been signed Before Mr Karloff would come to America and assume his immortal role as Frankenstein.    However, the photo is a Universal postcard photo, so not sure if this was produced before or after "Frankenstein"..

Photo is in veer good to excellent condition.  It did have tape on back to mount on mat, but we removed most of that tape.   Also, there was very old tape on front top, right and bottom edges which easily came off and left just a hint of tape residue.  * See enlargeable images above and below.

Vintage gelatin silver, single weight, glossy postcard photo of actor Boris Karloff during his time at Universal. An unrestored photo that displays signs of use. May include light edge wear, tape in the borders, and minor creases. The photo is signed in bold fountain pen ink, "Alfred Vines with best wishes, Boris Karloff."  Has some subtle vintage tape residue to right, bottom edge of photo.  Otherwise, very good condition.
