Marilyn Monroe
Original Vintage Photo, 1962
Taken Three Weeks Before Her Death
Processed Day Of the July 1962 Photo Shoot!
Photographer George Barris (last to photograph Marilyn)

"Stroke of the Hair"

In July of 1962 a young photographer named George Barris would make history.  He would photograph the most famous movie star of all time , Marilyn Monroe on Santa Monica Beach on July 13, 1962.  At that time he could not have known he would be the last person to ever photograph Ms Monroe as her tragic and highly suspicious death would be just three weeks later.  Any ORIGINAL photos from that day are extremely rare and desirable ..

NOTE:  To put some perspective on the value and significance of this historical photo..   Original period Marilyn Monroe TYPE 1 photos (taken and developed at time of photo shoot)  by renown photographers like Andre de Dienes and George Barris are selling upwards of over $10,000 .  However, there have been far more original period 1 Andre de Dienes photos appear on the market than George Barris, as only a few TYPE 1 Barris photos have ever been offered for sale.  On his website he sells limited edition Re-Prints for $2500.  And the fact George Barris was the very last person to photograph Marilyn and THIS is one of those ORIGINAL photos, in which he developed and sent the VERY SAME DAY he photographed her, possibly with Marilyn sitting in his studio is quite remarkable.     This is likely the ONLY chance you will ever get to own an Original Period TYPE 1 Marilyn Monroe/George Barris "Last Photo-shoot" photo!

NOTE UPDATE:
On the back of the photo is the Original New York Daily Press "Photo received" Date that reads JUL 13 1962, the exact same day of the shoot .  That means Mr Barris processed and delivered this photo to the Daily News the very same day he took this photo !
George Barris was commissioned by the New York  News to photo shoot Ms Monroe in July 1962.   No one of course would now this wold be her vary last photo shoot.   * See enlargeable image below.

FINAL SHOOT !

An IMPORTANT and Extremely RARE, Vintage 1962 ORIGINAL Photograph depicting Marilyn Monroe as captured by George Barris (1922 -). The New York City photographer who grew up in Manhattan's Lower East Side carries the distinction of being the last photographer to conduct an official photo shoot with Monroe, less than a month before her death.   Barris who shot for Parade & Cosmopolitan Magazine first met and photographed Marilyn in New York in 1954 where she was on location for the film, "The Seven Year Itch". The two became close friends.  While collaborating on an upcoming book with Marilyn, Barris photographed Marilyn during a photo session that took place on July 13, 1962 in the Santa Monica Beach area in CA.  Sadly, this would be Marilyn's FINAL photo shoot as she tragically died less than a month later on August 3rd, 1962.

Note: We were fortunate to acquire an Original Period Barris/Marilyn photo about 18 months ago which sold.  We mentioned in our description at that time that "Mr.Barris is one of the last people still alive who knew Marilyn personally"...  However, we regret to report that Mr George Barris passed away in December 2016.

When World War II broke out, George was the official army photographer from 1942-1945 and was assigned to General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s victory homecoming celebration. George created an album
of the events. He received a special album autographed by General Eisenhower.

Offered is a rare and desirable ORIGINAL, issued in 1962 of one of Barris' classic shots of Marilyn . This gelatin-silver photograph measuring 8" x 10" comes from the collection of the New York Daily News and was one subjected for use in newsprint publication at the time and has the paper's original press stamp and stamp dates, the earliest that reads JUL 13 1962, the exact same day of the shoot .  That means Mr Barris processed and delivered this photo to the Daily News the very same day of this "Last" Photo Shoot!
Of course not aware it would be the very last time anyone would photograph the most photographed movie superstar of all time!

The photo is a period TYPE I photo made by Barris for the N.Y. Daily News and more importantly a specimen made in 1962 and NOT a print made after her death (the last point is emphasized because there are lots of modern copies and later generation prints out there).  * Reprints of his photos are sold on the George Barris website for $2500.    Imagine the REAL value of an ORIGINAL !

This is an exceptional Marilyn photograph, one dating to her final photo shoot.  This offered example represents one of only a few true original 1962 Barris photographs that will ever be publicly offered as the few known exemplars are buried in permanent collections and private galleries !

Also comes with Certificate of Authenticity from PSA Lead Photo Authenticator Henry Yee
