James Stewart
Original autographed signed letter

His first collaboration with Hitch: “Rehearsals for ‘The Rope’ will not start till January”

TLS signed “Jim Stewart,” one page, 6 x 8.5, personal letterhead, December 20, 1947. Stewart writes to Lillian Baas in Waukesha, Wisconsin. In full: “Thanks for the fine and interesting letter. I’m glad you liked the Jack Carson show. I’ve must returned from M.C.’ing the Press Show in Cleveland, and while I was gone my parents arrived in town to spend the holidays here with me. Rehearsals for ‘The Rope’ will not start till January, since they are still trying to cast the rest of the picture. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season and a very happy New Year….”

In the following year, Stewart costarred in Alfred Hitchock’s Rope, inspired by the Leopold and Loeb murder case, with Farley Granger and John Dall. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition.

How amazing to have this framed with an ORIGINAL lobby card from this Hitchcock classic. We included an photo of a "Rope" lobby card with the image. (letter doesn't have this image on it)

Incredible vintage piece of Hollywood history.
