The Pearl of Death (Universal, 1944). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Mystery.
Starring Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Dennis Hoey, Rondo Hatton, Evelyn Ankers, Miles Mander, Ian Wolfe, Charles Francis, Mary Gordon, and Billy Bevan. Directed by Roy William Neill. A partially restored title lobby card with good color and an overall very presentable appearance. It may have had slight edge wear, corner bends, small tears. Restoration efforts have addressed one of the tears in the upper border. Paper tape on the verso.

Based on the story The Six Napoleons by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this film finds Sherlock Holmes attempting to locate the Borgia pearl before the Oxton Creeper kills another owner of a Napoleonic statuette where the pearl is hidden. Rondo Hatton appeared for the first time as the stalking murderer, The Creeper, a character who would join the pantheon of Universal monsters along with the likes of The Mummy and Frankenstein. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce will forever be remembered as the quintessential Sherlock Holmes and his trusted sidekick, Dr. Watson, both appearing on this eerie Title Card
staged to tease money from pockets. Chicago’s infamous Joseph Weil, known as the Yellow Kid, pulled off convincing performances—posing as bank presidents, inventors, millionaires, and even scientists—in a swindling career that spanned decades. “I have played more roles in real life,” he once declared, “than the average actor ever dreamed of.”
