Note: We must first mention that in our 40 + years collecting this is the fifth 1864 Abraham Lincoln/Andrew Johnson campaign token ferrotype we have owned. As you will read below, it is the Most Rare of the Lincoln political campaign tokens. However, we have never owned or Seen one in this extraordinary condition. Most all of these 160 year old historical artifacts that are discovered have the images completely or partially rub or scratched off. Or the images are very dark or blurry or experienced heavy corrosion.
Condition: This breath-taking specimen has exceptional photo clarity and tone and the images have survived intact without the typical seen scratches and corrosion. Again, something you will NOT see in 99% of these that appear on the market! The only minor flaw is two letters in Lincoln last name have rubbed off and age related wear along the outer edge of the ferrotypes. But considering the rarity, exceptional condition and historical significance of this piece of history, it is a most extraordinary Find you are not like to encounter anytime soon, if ever again.
The images are particularly stunning with a nice, Rarely seen bright clear detailed image. One of the BEST we’ve ever encountered ! To find this RARE 160+ year old historical artifact in this Amazing Condition is something that only happens in a dream. A most worthy museum quality piece !

Ultra RARE: Serious Lincoln collectors will appreciate the RARITY of this Historical Lincoln treasure. These "type" examples of a round, bearded 1864 Lincoln & Johnson ferro are much more scarce than the 1860 versions with Lincoln & Hamlin. For every 10-15 Lincoln/Hamlin campaign tokens that appear on the market, there is ONE Lincoln/Johnson token. These were actually used 160 years ago, during Abraham Lincoln's 1864 re-election campaign.. with his new VP Andrew Johnson, replacing Hannibal Hamlin....
NOTE: 1864 Lincoln ferros are considerably tougher than those from 1860, probably because numerous varieties with cardboard photos, sold more cheaply and stole much of the market in 1864.

Approx. 1 in. diam. gilt brass pin featuring 5/8 in. diam. ferrotypes of Lincoln and Johnston on the obverse and reverse, respectively . Obverse with legend "For President / 1864," reverse with legend, "For Vice President / 1864.". Lettering exhibits little or no wear.
