"King Kong", 1933 (1956 re-release)
Original Vintage Movie Poster One Sheet (27x41")
For years, "King Kong" has been the pinnacle of the poster hobby, with the posters setting new records almost every time they appear at auction! In 2000 a six sheet sold for $189,000 and in 1999 a three sheet sold for $244,500!
Other than the 1933 original which commands six figure investments, this 1956 re-release is one of the most sought after. A few years ago we sold a 1952 re-release but seasoned collectors know the 1956 release is much more desirable due to its superior artwork and brighter colors. It is just gorgeou. So if you don't currently have $100k for the 1933 poster this is the next best thing.
This one sheet is completely Unrestored, so you are seeing the real deal! No hidden defects by in painting or other restoration techniques. It has fold line wear and some minor separation at cross folds. But, of course would look amazing with professional linen backing. This is the first 1956 King Kong one sheet we have ever owned in 30 years of collecting. Grab this one as it may be our last.
* We also just acquired a great lobby card from this 1956 release. Look below under “Also Recommend”.
King Kong (RKO, R-1956). One Sheet (27" X 41").
A triumph of a movie; both technically and artistically, this is one of the most highly-regarded films ever made. The story, about a showman (Robert Armstrong) who travels to a remote island to find the greatest attraction of all time and returns to civilization with Kong, The Eighth Wonder of the World, is exciting enough, but when paired with the brilliant stop-motion animation effects of genius technician Willis O'Brien, it's easy to see why this picture has remained a fan-favorite for more than seven decades. Of course, paper from this title is extremely popular with collectors, who are eager to snatch up anything they can find. This beautiful re-release poster is sure to prove no exception.
