George -- The Supreme Master of Magic (Otis Litho, Mid 1920s). Rolled, Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Grover G. George (1887-1958) was born in Zanesville, Ohio, and developed a love for magic while watching Keller the Great and Howard Thurston at the old Schultz Opera House. By the 1920s, George was touring large, well respected theaters, but faced fierce competition from Thurston. In 1924, he made the key decision to leave the U.S., embarking on a hugely successful tour of Cuba, Central and South America. Although he attempted to return to American stages, George did not reach the same exalted status of "The Greatest Magician on Earth" that he had outside of the U.S. He retired in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he ran a prosperous business manufacturing projection machines for theaters.
This unrestored stone litho is in amazing condition for its 100 years!  Contains light edge wear including a few micro tears in the borders. A few small strips of archival tape on the verso are bracing some of the micro tears.
