From the Moe Howard Estate

One of the most historically significant and spectacular Original TYPE I Three Stooges photos we’ve ever acquired.   Note: 1934 was their Inaugural year and their very first Columbia Short from 1934 was, "Women Haters".

Also, seasoned collectors will recognize this photo as possible the most famous and spectacular of all Stooges photos.  In addition to being their first Columbia Short appearance,  the photo itself is a masterpiece!  The close up of the three young comedic giants is stunning, and the pose is a legendary gem that been used for countless reproduction projects.

What makes this photo so Extraordinary?    From their First Columbia short “Women Haters” from 1934.   This is where the Stooges magic began!  Note: On the back Curly is not yet “Curly” and is referred to as Jerry Howard.    If you’re a seasoned Stooges fan you know how significant this is as it would be only a few months in 1934 that Jerry Howard disappear and be replaced by "Curly".

Has extraordinary provenance on the back with the original studio snipe along with Moe Howard’s ownership label.   Note: Some photos in this recent discovered collection also have the "Norman Maurer" stamp on the back.   Maurer along with his wife Joan Howard Maurer (Moe's daughter) assumed the Rights I believe in the late 50s early 60s.

Film Bio:
Woman Haters is a 1934 musical short subject directed by Archie Gottler starring American slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Jerry Howard). It is the inaugural entry in the series released by Columbia Pictures starring the comedians, who would ultimately star in 190 short subjects for the studio between 1934 and 1959. This short is known to be the first program shown on Antenna TV, a channel that was launched on January 1, 2011, by Tribune Broadcasting
