WILD MEN OF BORNEO
Circa 1870s

Photographer
Frank Wendt of New York City

1870s BARNUM CIRCUS SIDESHOW WILD MEN OF BORNEO PERFORMER CABINET CARD PHOTO
Very rare and original, 1870's Cabinet Card Photograph of Sideshow / Circus Freaks / Human Oddities "Waino and Plutano - The Wild Men of Borneo" - aka Hiram and Barney Davis - two dwarf brothers with extraordinary strength and somewhat bizarre appearances.

This wonderful, Card Mount Photo measures a relatively Large 3 5/8" by 5 1/2" and is mounted on its original, photographer’s Card Mount (overall size 4 1/4" by 6 1/2"). The Image pictures the diminutive Brothers in full length standing side by side in the photographer’s studio.

There is ink stamped text on the back of the card mount that reads "Waino & Plutano / Wild Men of Borneo / Age 50 to 60 / (Price 10 cts.)". The recto carries the mark of the famous celebrity photographer – Frank Wendt of New York City.   * See enlargeable images above and below

This wonderful and quite rare Cabinet Card Photograph is in excellent condition. The Photograph itself exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. Both the Photograph and the Card Mount are generally clean and crisp and very well preserved.

A very rare and original, 1870's Cabinet Card Photograph of Sideshow / Circus Freaks / Human Oddities “Waino and Plutano - The Wild Men of Borneo" and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!

NOTE:  Although we have had a number of late 19th C circus posters over the years, we have never had a piece this early (until recently), actually published while Barnum was still alive as such material is virtually non existent.   That's why this Original photo is so exciting as it was published at the height of his success and most likely Barnum owned one of these photos himself.

NOTE:
We recently acquire SIX other antique SIDESHOW photos.  See the others below under , "Other Treasures You May Like".

Note: Cvtreasures stamp Not on original
