"Charlie Chan on Broadway" Original Vintage Movie Poster Window Card (14x22")

As Chan collectors know, any original vintage movie paper with Warner Oland is scarce. And this great vintage Window Card is no exception. Not only the first time we have ever seen, but based on our research the only time it has ever appeared on the market! In quite nice condition with some border wear and typical fold line horizontally (all window cards were folded prior to sending to movie theaters , and many were folded both vertically and horizontally. This one just ONCE horizontally).  Also note, this window card, unlike most , does NOT have the top area trimmed off.

Window Cards were a popular movie poster style in the pre 1960s era before the Super movie theaters like Showcase (along with technology evolution) , put all the small city/town theaters out of business.

This vintage movie treasure was used to advertise this 1937 Chan film at The Bonham Theatre at 564 Water Street in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin  (see history below)

Charlie Chan (Warner Oland) is in New York City to attend a police testimonial in his honor, and winds up taking on a new murder mystery. This time, the victim is a blackmailing nightclub singer who listed in her diary the names of all known criminals in Manhattan. Chan takes on the case and eventually tracks down the killer - who turns out to be the least likely suspect. A first time offering from CVTreasures, this window card shows bends in the left corners, a few light scattered stains in the lower half, and a horizontal fold in the center. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.

Bonham Theatre History

The Bonham Theatre at 564 Water Street in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, was built in 1919 as both a movie and vaudeville theater.

Farmer John Bonham purchased the property and built the theater for his sons, Orlin and Earl Bonham. The brothers participated in local theatrical productions and reportedly traveled with the One Ring Circus as actors and managers. The building also contained a bowling alley, tavern and pool hall in the basement, making it an early community-entertainment center.

Its ownership history includes:

 1923: Purchased by Martin Accola. His daughter, Lilah Accola Murphy, became closely involved with its operation.
 1947: Sold to W. J. Charboneau and L. Leisch, owners of theaters in Lodi and Fennimore. They remodeled the façade, installed a new marquee and renamed it the Midway Theatre.
 1970s: Owned for a time by Ed Taylor.
 1979: Purchased by Nancy Wuensch and Steve Edelstein, who restored the original Bonham name.
 Later alterations divided the original auditorium into a three-screen theater.

Remarkably, the building still operates as the Bonham Theatre & Video, showing first-run movies while also maintaining a video-rental business. The current operation describes itself as family-owned and serving the surrounding region since 2000.

The Wisconsin Historical Society identifies it as a two-story, red-brick commercial building with its original “BONHAM” stone name block still visible near the roofline.

Its survival is unusual: it has remained an entertainment venue for more than a century despite ownership changes, modernization and its temporary Midway Theatre identity.
