“Stolen from John Wayne” engraved lighter 

Here is an extraordinary piece of Hollywood History!   An original lighter John Wayne made for the movie "The Shootist" presented to cast members and others involved with the film.   Apparently over the years many of John Wayne’s cigarette lighters “disappeared”.  Hence, he started to engrave his name on them and added “Stolen from” to discourage admirers of his lighters…   Eventually he started to make a few for each film during his later years.    

Side Note:  In a John Wayne biography his kids say he lit one match a day, first thing in the morning. He lit every other cig with the one he was finishing up.  (see image above)

Note:  We acquired one of these about 15 years ago but NOT with the Rare Original Box 

The Shootist (Paramount, 1976). Fine/Very Fine. John Wayne Gifted Cast & Crew Zippo Lighter (2.25" X 1.5") in Box. 
Presented here is a vintage zippo lighter gifted by The Duke himself, John Wayne, to the cast and crew of The Shootist. One side of the lighter is engraved with the title of the film while the other side is engraved with the words, "Stolen from John Wayne." Starring John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, James Stewart, Richard Boone, Hugh O'Brian, Bill McKinney, Harry Morgan, John Carradine, Sheree North, Richard Lenz, and Scatman Crothers. Directed by Don Siegel.
