Original Vintage Exhibition Poster, 1971

 

 

Original color 20 x 30" promotional poster for an Andy Warhol exhibition held at London's Tate Gallery from February 17 to March 28, 1971, featuring an iconic image of the artist's silkscreened Marilyn Monroe, entitled 'Shot Sage Blue Marilyn'.

The month of Monroe's tragic death, Warhol, who had only just begun experimenting with the silkscreen process, decided to pay tribute to the late screen legend with a series of multicolored paintings. The basis of this image, and those that represent Warhol's iconic 'Marilyn Diptych,' derives from a publicity shot by Gene Korman for the 1953 film Niagara. A gorgeous vintage Warhol exhibition poster, this museum-quality display piece is one of Warhol's most identifiable and desirable subjects. The original silkscreen painting of 'Shot Sage Blue Marilyn' recently sold at auction for a record $195,000,000.


This Rare and highly desirable Warhol/Monroe exhibition poster has sold at auction for over $2000! 

In Excellent + condition and was used to promote the 1971 Warhol exhibition. However, the condition of this 50 year old exhibition poster is so amazing it appears Unused!  We had one of these a few years ago but it was not in this exceptionally Rare nice condition!  Highly desirable Marilyn Monroe art and piece of history!

This rare vintage poster & Piece of History was used to promote Andy Warhol's exhibition at the Tate Gallery in London, England in February and March of 1971,
featuring an image of one of Warhol's silkscreen prints from his legendary Marilyn Monroe suite. An unrestored poster that appears virtually unused. Closer inspection may reveal one or two minor flaws, such as light edge wear or minute creases.


NOTE: This is only the third time we have acquired this masterpiece lithograph posters since 1980 and the other two sold almost immediately after we posted them.  And this one is in extraordianry condition and has Never been folded.   Has been carefully preserved in rolled condition for the past 52 years !

This poster was used to advertise the 1971 exhibition of Andy Warhol paintings and prints at the Tate Gallery in London. This image of Marilyn Monroe was originally painted by Warhol in 1962 and comes from The Marilyn Diptych, a silkscreen painting which has 50 image variations. The set of 50 images are based on a single publicity photo of Monroe from the 1953 film Niagara.
